Underground Tunnels In Houston

Houston has one of the largest underground pedestrian tunnel systems in the nation. There are restaurants, doctors offices, gyms, optometrists, dentists and so many more specialty stores underground. They even have underground parks for people to enjoy. These tunnels are 20 feet below the surface and are more than 6 miles long. It originally started out as a tunnel between two theaters, it has expanded exponentially. They even have tunnels from the jail to the courts that are not connected to the other tunnel systems for obvious reasons.
Anyone can walk into these tunnels, you just find an entry point and follow the maps. These tunnels have flooded through hurricanes and they have even put in flood control dams in a couple locations to control the amount of flooding.
If you are in Houston and its a hot day and you are looking for something fun and interesting to do I highly recommend taking a tunnel tour or just exploring them yourselves because it is neat and most importantly, it is air conditioned.
