The Magic of Hawthorn: Edible & Medicinal Benefits, Weird Facts & Folklore + 2 Healing Recipes

Why is Hawthorn such an important medicinal tree? Why were it’s flowers banished from English homes? Why and how does it smell like both sex and of decomposing bodies?!!

Come learn about the magical powers of our native Hawthorn, Crataegus Monogyna, an interesting tree steeped in folklore and superstition! After learning a few key identification features, we’ll discuss both the edible and medicinal uses and I’ll be showing you how to make an infused hawthorn flower brandy tincture to help protect the heart, and a healing hawthorn and ginger syrup to help aid digestion too!

Please remember to never eat any wild food, be it plant, fruit or fungi, unless you are 100% certain of its identity and always cross check your resources. Always do research before taking herbs internally, especially if you are pregnant, have severe allergies or a weakened immune system. Finally, remember to take only what you need from places of abundance, and always leave plenty for the wildlife too.

If you’d like to follow along for more foraging and forest garden content, you can join me over on;

Thanks for watching!

So cool, I never knew Hawthorn was so medicinal - thank you - You have EPIC knowledge.
I made a Lemon Thyme tincture the other day when I spotted a beautiful big fresh clump in our Food Forest - Will be sooo good to keep in stock for the winter time ... Sage one next, whilst it is still young and fresh. Hope to get more adventureous over time though and use more wild medicines like this 💚✌🌿

I have loads of hawthorn around my little shack in the woods. Since i watched this video 2 days ago, i have been plucking the flowers off the hawthorn every time i walk past and just munching on them. Not the most flavourful thing I've ever eaten but strangely satisfying. Thanks for letting me know the whole plant is edible, i can't wait for the berries to come out!
And I just noticed that you said you add hogweed seeds to your syrup? I have spent the past 3 weeks trying to get rid of all the hogweed that is growing here, I didn't know that they were actually gonna be giving me something useful later in the year! I still have tonnes of it growing. Do you think it is worth saving some?

Adding the honey, doesn't that make it an elixir?

Thank you. Is the Indian Snow White hawthorn shrub also good for medicine and teas?

This is a beautiful video but the audio is way too low. It would also help if you spoke more slowly, Danni
