Predator Dubbing Baitfish - Sea trout fly

In this video, we are going to tie a baitfish fly for sea trout. The main material in this fly is predator dubbing which makes it super easy to tie and the material comes in many great colors that are very fluorescent. When I peel the dubbing in my hands I do that to get all the fibers to be in the same direction but also I pull it apart to make the fibers shorter. The material is quite strong but if you take it a little at a time you can peel it apart instead of cutting. I prefer that to get a nice taper on the fly and for the colors to blend nicely with each other. The closer to the head the shorter I peel the fibers. In the tail, it is almost the full length. The UV resin I add to the head before attaching the eyes is Gulff Thinman to make the fly more streamline in the water and when I do it before attaching the eyes, that process will be easier too.

A suggestion for Flydressing would be to create a "set" where you can buy all of the materials needed with just one item. And link it to the video.

Hi Robert, I have just started watching your wonderful videos on sea trout fishing and fly-tying and am really enjoying them.I’m livin ing on the south west coast of Ireland and we have a very similar looking seascape as yours but we have no tradition of sea fly fishing for sea-trout on our waters. We have Sea-trout in our waters as they travel up our Feale River in the spring time in abundance in the spring /summer months to spawn. I love to fly-fish for Atlantic Salmon from March to September about eight miles up river in the fresh water but never thought of trying fishing the coastal salt waters for them. We do fish for Sea bass with good success from spring onwards but rarely using salt water flys. I loved your fly tying video recently and will try to tie a few of your bait fish flies of my own and try them out over here in Ireland. Kind regards, Donal Liston, Ballybunion, Co Kerry, Ireland .
