I take a further look into the back streets of the Claremont area of Blackpool. Beginning in the Layton area, I walk along Devonshire Road past the biscuit factory & under the bridge to the northern side of the railway tracks.

Stephen my mother went to blackpool when she was 5yrs old. My great grandfather took her back too Europe & England on his way back to Italy. My great grandfather had friends in blackpool that was 80yrs ago. My mother remembered blackpool fondly 😊😊

Thank you Stephen you’re really giving me an insight to Blackpool, I’ve learnt so much about your home town. Hope you liked the chips……

Such a genteel stroll and so pleasing to see street after street of terraced houses without knee high piles of household filth, drug paraphenalia, and discarded mattresses, fridges etc. - these are people who care for their homes and the wider community (didn't see many, if any, boarded up properties). I rememember my mum and others in our street, on their knees, caressing the steps ( of a 3-up, 2-down terrace with no front garden, no internal water or toilet, and backing onto a canal - honestly, the best years of my life) with Cardinal Red. I have another vague memory that Maryland Cookies were originally Symbol Maryland Cookies, and they had hazelnuts in them.

When I was a kid living in Layton my mum used to work the evening shift in what was Symbols biscuits and always brought home a waxed paper bag of broken biscuits…..you could smell the vanilla smell of the factory in my mums back garden. The bit where you started off used to be a trendy women’s fashion store “Georgie Blackburns” back in the early 70’s. Streets seem so empty now….back in the day there was always people about.

Thankyou for sharing this video, those streets are frighteningly quiet. Youve got some gonads to go on these walks alone.
Please stay safe.
