I'm so happy to see both Duras and Nemirovsky on your list 😊 I have gone on a big Duras book buying binge the last week, and I'm really excited to read more of her works.
I will recommend Marie Darrieussecq, I recently read her latest book Being Here. It's a biography and I just fell in love with her writing (and the book). I need to get to Ferrante soon... And thank you for the recommendations.
Have a great day, Michael 😊

I wasn't over the moon about My Brilliant Friend but I will continue with Book 2. I'll stop if it doesn't work for me. I read The Appointment by Herta Muller. So heavy. She definitely paints an ambience. The Lover is one of my favorites.I need to read Human Acts too. Definitely read Suite Français. It's Excellent! Here are some suggestions Maryse Condé, Anaïs Nin, Marie Darrieusssecq, Yoko Ogawa, etc!

Dammit. I wish I'd known about this sooner. Really missed the boat because this is a great prompt. I have the vegetarian so hopefully i can at least get round to that before the end of the month.

Currently reading the grapes of wrath and it will. Not. Die.

Great recommendations! I really need to read The Lover. I may try to participate in the #WITMonth and pick up Vernon Subutex 1 by Virginie Despentes and/or Can You Hear Me? by Elena Varvello that I just bought. I also really want to get to Belladonna by Daša Drndić, and Cry, Mother Spain by Lydie Salvayre - I've heard great things about them.

Damn it Michael. Now I have another eight books on my tbr. When will this monster ever stop growing? I actually hadn't heard of Suite Francaise, but it really intrigued me and now I desperate to get my hands on it.
Now that I'm finished with The Unwomanly Face of War I hope to get with Secondhand Time.

I've recently been really enjoying Tatyana Tolstaya with her imaginative stories, and Magda Szabo. Also, if you are interested in russian poetry, there is Anna Akhmatova and Marina Tsvetaeva. Unfortunately the poetry translations are not as powerful as written in the native language but still worth it.
