SUBJECTIVE VS OBJECTIVE DATA (NURSING)

What is subjective data and objective data? And why do you need to know about it in nursing school?

In this video, we're going to dive into what subjective vs objective actually means in nursing school, and I'll give you a little trick to help you remember it. Plus, we'll walk through a common example of subjective vs objective data that many nursing students get wrong.

Here are the quick definitions of subjective vs objective data:

Subjective data in nursing really just means that you can't observe it (meaning you can't see it, feel it, touch it, smell it, heart it, or otherwise experience it yourself).

On the flip side, objective data in nursing means that you CAN observe it. Often times it's measurable, repeatable or it can be experienced by you or by someone else.

Make sure to watch the whole video for the memory trick + an example of subjective vs objective data.

Thanks for being here, friend!!

Thank you for this video - you have given the time, without explaining how to build the watch! Simplification by enhancing the information rather than taking away is good teaching. Thank you for your service as a nurse. God's Angels!

Thanks yeah I got it finally and I think if something that the patient doesn’t tell us him or herself and we can’t realize so it’s subjective but if they don’t tell us what’s wrong but we can realize so it’s objective..

How about if it is stated by the watcher, for example Jake's mother states that his son has a throbbing headache? How can we classify this one? Thank you.

I have a question, verbalization of pain is subjective data.. when we use the pain intensity scale (assessment tool)? e.g., 7/10, does the pain scale becomes objective data?
