One key difference in the MY rear seat is the space for your feet under the front seat. Because the front seats in the Y are basically just M3 seats on a riser, a "cubby hole" is created where rear passengers can put their feet. This would be really useful if the driver is tall and their seat is pretty far back.

Best video I’ve seen comparing Model 3 to Model Y.

This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks a lot

Our main concern was leg room. This definitely helps steer my decision to the model 3,

You did only leg room but no the actual rear seat length from from to back. Model-3 is 19 inches and Model-Y is 17 inches. Model-Y rear seat is very uncomfortable for adults with 5 ft 8 inches and above.

while the rear seats are not wider, the usable width of the Y is greater. you can easily see that by looking at the arm rest. the arm rest and middle seat is actually wider so it is easier to accomodate 3 adults where, the rear seats of the 3 is middle arm rest is smaller and the seats are more sculped making it really only usable for 2 adults. a lot of the rear seats of the 3 width is wasted on the side cushioning due to the sculping. the rear seats in the y are flat. so more of the Y's width is actually usable. this is why you cannot simply use interior dimensions as a true comparison as the seating position and sculping of the seats change the actual usable space.

Thanks for actually showing (and even measuring) the width of the rear seats! I've just looked through a load of "rear seat comparison" videos trying to find something that showed that part, but no one else did. I am surprised that they are the same width (the exterior of the car is meant to be about 2 inches wider isn't it?) and even more surprised that they've actually made the two main rear seats narrower than in the Model 3 by making the middle one wider without increasing the overall width to allow for it - I really wasn't expecting that!

Do you have any idea whether the interior space between the two rear doors (i.e. just above the seats, where people's hips/upper legs would be, and maybe further up where their outer arms would be) is also the same on both models, or maybe it at least has the extra two inches of space there? (a measurement of that on the Model Y would be great!)

Just came up with this video, really good content.
The only thing that for me is not accurate is the way you measure leg room. Leg room should be the space between the back of the rear sets, to the seat in front of you, in a straight line at the height of your hips when sitting.

Is it weird that I watched this twice? Lol

One question... do you find the white seats stay clean or are they easy to clean?
I love the look but not sure which to go for.

Thanks ✌🏼

Surprise that Y has no wider back seats than 3.

Is this a joke?
Model Y has WAY WAY more room than Model 3. Model 3 has zero foot space if you put driver seat on the floor which I do. Seat is 3inch lower too. And you have a lot less headroom as well.
Im literally changing from a 3 to a Y because the backseat is infinitely better in the Y.

I can't wait to test the Y. I rented the 3 performance and hated the rear seats. I don't think there's a car out there with worse seating in the back. Terrible. I do Uber and plan to buy a Tesla eventually, but can't expect happy passengers in the back. No way. The Y reclines, so I hope between that and the height is decent enough.

Totally missed out on measuring headroom here, which is where the Y is miles ahead of the 3.

Good video but you didn’t measure one major dimension!

Thats the rear seat length. The length From hip to thigh of the seat.
Thats the major thing that gona give you comfort. Thats very small in y, lesser than 3.. almost a deal breaker.
