Biology of the Griffin (The Witcher)

Though the existence of the Griffen is debated, it's assumed that they're not the result of convergent evolution but the result of a magic user combining a type of lion with an unknown type of bird to be used and assault or defensive creatures but they proved unruly and escaped into the wild and reproduced.

It's also hunted at that they are extremely adaptable to the environment which is what results in the numerous subspecies.

Is it possible that the griffin evolved from a type of dinosaur if it existed on earth ?
