I-694 thru the Twin Cities

Riding west down I-694. There are big plans for this road in the future so I thought I'd show it off the way it is right now. Scenes include footage of the new 35e/694 weave interchange just recently completed.

Now that the 3 lane expansion is complete along with the 2 loop ramps at MN-51 it was cool watching this and going back in time.

Nice Vid. I know that road like the back of my hand. And for some reason it seems like every time I pass under that BNSF bridge, a locomotive is passing over it....Just like 4:10.
I don't comment much, but I enjoy all your videos. Keep up the good work!

Just an FYI, the 694 expansion project between 35W and 35E has been shelved indefinitely due to a lack of funds (just like the majority of other metro area projects). The interchange at 694/51/10 is set to be reconstructed starting spring 2011. The plan is on the city of Arden Hills website. The plans currently eliminate the weave allowing for 2 through lanes on 694 with bridges that could accommodate a future 3rd lane in each direction.

I can see why there are big plans for this road more lanes are way overdue.

Nice video. The suburbs are rather small compared to what you see in Texas, Arizona or California.

I noticed a lot of cable barriers, are they common in the Twin Cities?

@eluko79 You might know that I have some videos up on my channel that cover about this same amount of territory. My question is this: do you think it's better to do timelapse videos like this or would it be good to do realtime videos so you can actually see the signs on the freeways and things?

@eluko79 My dad works for Cretex off Bass Lake Rd. in Maple Grove, and he designed the bridges for the US-62 and 35-W flyovers. It's gonna be much better when it's all done! His company is also helping with the Hwy 169 overpass over Hwy 81 in Osseo.

Another awesome video! I really liked how you inserted the US Highway Gothic font into your video.

One very slight recommendation. For the title, add in (MN) in front of I-694, and mention the Twin Cities or Minneapolis/St. Paul...since some of your international viewers will still have no idea what area they're looking at on the map. Just something that I thought about, but very very minor.

Again, awesome vid. 5*!

@aswchris I think you see towns with much larger populations in the Chicago or LA area than in Texas (except for the DFW Metroplex). Almost half of the population in the Houston area is within the city limits (which itself is suburban for the most part, granted), and I think the San Antonio and Austin cases are similar.
