This is what makes Henry so difficult to understand: he was fond of More but would give him no leeway in respect of what More believed even if he half believed it himself.

No one was safe when Henry was around. Thank you.

I didn’t know much about Thomas Moore’s life. I only knew about his sticky end.
Thank you for sharing more of his life with us.

I always find it so interesting to hear about the religious aspect of Tudor life and how people were killed for believing in the ‘wrong’ religion. It’s something I struggle to wrap my head around.

Thank you for your daily videos. They’re always a bright point in my day.

Many a Catholic Church is named St Thomas More. I give him credit for standing by his beliefs & educating his daughter. Thank you Claire.

Sir Thomas More is a man who has fascinated me since my teens. I love how he made sure his daughter was well educated in a time when most women weren't. She is a woman I would like to have known.

In our church, RCatholic, More is a saint! Perhaps Henry’s conscience couldn’t handle seeing him standing up for the faith, because at some level, Henry realized what he (Henry)had done was wrong! Love your videos p, Thanks from Canada!💐🇨🇦

Paul Scofield in A Man For All Seasons years and years ago. Great movie about Thomas More. Scofield won the Oscar for it. Jeremy Northam, who I love, played More in The Tudors on Showtime but as talented as he is he wasn't as good as Scofield. Thank you Claire.

🇦🇺🦘 Whilst Thomas More was born on this day, he grew to be such a powerful man in the reign of Henry VIII, even knighted, so Sir Thomas More. It is so hard to believe that a man, so trusted by the King, would later be executed for treason in 1535, as 'no traitor was he'!

Although, we have noted (whilst learning about Tudor England) that many were executed as traitors, when they were not, only because they would NOT 'comply'. How very sad indeed.

Thank you Claire 👑👍

It seems that the Tudor moral of the story was "don't become close friends with Henry VIII" He could love you one day and have you killed the next. Maybe Charles Brandon was the exception to this moral

Interesting what he said about Henry 8.

Thanks Claire. I just don't understand how the Catholics could say no man can be supreme head of the church and then give deference to the Pope.
