I would have stuck with all deeps for interchangeability. I also would stay with minimal interference. ….trapping local swarms, no pesticides, no feeding of sugar. I agree that mixing “schools of thought” can be less than ideal.

At least for me, you have a very easy to follow teaching and instruction way you go about it. I highly recommend your online classes!

Wow David some great advice. We grew up very similar. We were encouraged to be the best we can be, We were expected to always do the right thing. YouTube has been an amazing tool for people to accomplish just about anything.
As you said here so many people have so many different ways to accomplish the same task. I've been reading, studying and watched hundreds videos. I researched for over a year before buying my first and only hive. I study several different methods and use the one I'm most comfortable understanding and performing. I'm looking forward to making a split this spring. Thanks again for your great yes behind every good man there's a great wife!

Hi Dave. I love to learn and love keeping bees. I have kept bees for about 10 years. I would like to become an EAS certified master bee keeper but decided against it because I could not afford to go to the EAS meetings to take the exams. Any suggestions?

I started beekeeping 51 years ago and I stopped years ago after developing an allergy, and when I got back into beekeeping there were so many different things to worry about, varroa mites, mites and what ended up happening was the fact that I just was flabbergasted with all of the new pathogens and pests to worry about I laxed on the things that were basic yet still detrimental, so all of the mites I treated for and the colonies had demised, the colonies that I left all natural with no inspection throughout the season and no treatment and they are the only colonies that survived, my natural long hive colonies are the only survivors this year, I lost two colonies to mice And a really bad storm wiped out 10 colonies this year with high wind and icy rain, all could have been avoided if I paid attention to the foundation of overwintering I learned over 50 years, moral is, don’t hyper focus on the obvious new killers, pay attention to all of the things that can bring dimise to your bees, even the old pests need attention!! 🐝

I find is scary that new beekeepers with no experience at all really are on here making videos giving advice. Make sure you follow someone like David that really knows what he/she is doing.

David, I’m now heading into my 3rd year of bee keeping. In 2023 in Northern Ireland we had the worst summer with constant rain. I fed the bees 1/1 sugar water as next to no pollen was coming in. Come the autumn I fed them 2/1 sugar water to get them through the winter. Today had 10*C/50*F so I popped in for an inspection of the supers. They were 80% capped meaning plenty of stores. I keep my hives over winter as 1 brood and 1 super (British National). As we move into spring I feel there is too much #fake honey and I want to sell the proper stuff. What should I do? Perhaps I am lucky to have so much stores that the bees didn’t die out but now I am left with sugar water honey. What would you do? I start a bee course next week. Love your videos

This beekeeping video came from the heart. Your sincerity and wisdom came through. I often ask myself the same questions. Having the "then vs now" perspective makes a better teacher
