Hasselblad 20-35E :: As sharp as photography gets

The Hasselblad XCD 20-35E is a brand new lens for the new "Exclusive" line of optics. This is also the first wide-angle zoom from Hasselblad ideal for landscape and architectural photography. Is it worth the $5929 price tag? It is certainly a high end lens. It features an entirely internal zoom and focusing system. The lens features 16 elements in 12 groups with 3 Aspherical elements and 4 ED elements. It weighs in at 805 grams which is actually not as big as I expected. It's well balanced on the Hasselblad X2D and provides high resolution at all focal lengths. This is truly a modern and impressive zoom lens.

Great demo of that zoom lens. Seems like it would be well suited for interior architectural images. I shoot yacht interiors and between the wide dynamic range and limited size of the interiors, finding the right gear is quite a challenge. I'll have to rent an x2d along with this lens and give it a try. Thanks.

Hey from PA! I can't afford most of what you review, but it is grand watching and knowing what is out there. Been watching for many years, love your videos... Thank you!

I love the wide-angle range and the high-quality image quality. It seems like a perfect lens for landscape and architectural photography. Great lens.

Just love your videos. Excellent presentation and love how you show us example pics. you know your stuff and have a way of making us feel guilty for NOT owning this camera. I am saving for it but keep putting out Hassie videos.

An interesting review - as you infer, Hasselblad have 'cracked' the wide angle aspect with their V lenses on the X system. What would be great would be a prime V lens int the 120-140mm space. Many thanks.

I am slowly growing my Hasselblad system to keep within my budget. However saying that, this lens has grown on me due to the exceptional quality. Basically it is less than buying two V series lenses. I have all the p series (28P, 45P, and 75P) for out and about/travel. It might be very cost effective in the long run if there is any debate on which V series to get next in that range. This lens is outstanding in what it offers. There will be no regrets on my end.

Decades ago, I was dumbfounded by the resolution on the 80mm prime on my 500C. This lens has to be better than the older lenes.

The dream camera.
But I would go for the 38mm and 55mm primes.

Many will want a 120+ V prime next, but this first in the E series is interesting. I think what I want next is a 120mm+ P lens (taking the weight saving over the brighter aperture), though an E tele-end zoom might be interesting. But frankly, for me, I know that lighter = more use.

Thanks again for a perfect review. I’m not usually a fan of zoom lenses. I’m a landscape photographer and this lens interests me. When I acquired the 25V I kept the 21. My dealer notified me this morning that I’m on the list.

I still have the X1D as well, Hasselblad was kind enough to change the sensor and board so it’s brand new again. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Have you heard if Blad will be releasing a telephoto zoom in the near future? If they do I'm in!

Thank you for the excellent review. I’ve never used a Hasselblad, I’m afraid if I did I’d go broke rather quickly.

I am waiting for the 20-35, and I look towards to it with high expectations. I sold the 38 mm V, but not fully satisfied with this one, though it is a fantastic lense. Vignetting was a problem. I wonder why. Thanks for å nice line-up of Hasselblad.

👉🏻 Can’t wait for another P series lens, a 65mm Portable pancake f4 lens would be amazing to have with the 28p 🫶🏻 I have the 65 and the 28, I wish to have two option : ultra portable and fast and another one for the studio and pre-meditated shooting.

Matched withe the X2D, this may be the perfect carry setup!

And here I thought the v-series lenses were to be the top of the line for the X cameras.

Wow.. Thanks for your review as always.. If I want to choose between 24mm V and 20-35mm E, which one would you recommend in terms of IMAGE QUALITY, Sharpness, Versatility, and manubility for street and landscape photography.. Thanks again, Ted..
