The US Civil War brought about a lot of change. The nation not only had to figure out how to become united once again, but it also had to figure out how to integrate the newly freed slaves into society. In addition, the country had to figure out how to recover from the war, which devastated the South and took many lives on both sides.

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of an extensive doc on military reconstruction, not seeing anything over 10 min

Reconstruction failed, cause it wasn't actually done.

The thumbnail portrays it exactly the way the people who lived through it didn't see it.

This is almost a very good video, except for some oddly misleading labeling. Nothing a basic edit couldn't fix. The basic facts are right, but the word choices are occasionally shaky. So close to greatness. Overall, still, very good. Very thorough. Terrible subtitle for that book though.

2 hints that jumped out at me that this was a Confederate sympathizer opinion piece was the overuse of adverbs to describe Reconstruction, as if Reconstruction caused all the racial animosity and political backbiting. That was hint #1.

Hint #2 sealed the deal marking this as a blatant one sided opinion piece when it referred to the Civil War as a “war for southern independence”.

I can’t believe that you talked about this topic and didn’t even mention U. S. Grant. Who I think was one of the best presidents and greatest Americans ever. He was president for 8 years until 1877. And then reconstruction ended. When he was president he suppressed the racist whites in the south. Many blacks were elected to office and prospered . Grant suppressed the KKK. It didn’t come back for 30 years during the time of the racist president Woodrow Wilson. Grant is painted as a failure because so many racists write history. It happens today with people calling Twump great and Obama a failure. It’s very unfortunate that Lincoln and Grant were not around to implement real reform. The evil dies hard and segregation continued for 100 years and some diehard racism still exists in the 21st century

I do feel like the way that he announciates republicans and democrats a lot is a little misleading to the uneducated people of today. Liberals and conservatives would be better labels to understand the opinions. Otherwise a pretty good video

Reconstruction was like fixing a house while half the tenants set it on fire. They gave rights with one hand and took them back with the other. Somehow, the sequel (Jim Crow) lasted longer than the original!

The US Government were better, more forgiving, more generous to Germany, Italy, and Japan post WWII than they were to the Confederate States post war. One reason was because of Lincoln’s assassination. I’m a military brat, both my parents are from Northern States, but we lived in three Southern States during my childhood. I had two of my maternal great grandfathers from Ohio serve in the Union side Civil War…father and son, and the son was killed in Virginia 1862. It was apparent to me the US Government and people from the Northern States denied opportunities and treated the South unequally. Reconstruction was a failure, and unjust. It somewhat continues today. And yet racism exists in everyone of the 50 States.

It is worth noting that;
The Republicans were liberals and Democrats conservatives.

Where is the Bureau of Black Affairs? They have a Bureau of Indian Affairs. Until America is held accountable for its original sin, race relations will not improve.
