Thunder Force V (サンダーフォースV?, Sānda Fōsu V) is a 1997 side-scrolling shooter game developed and published (in Japan) by Technosoft for Sega Saturn; in North America, however, the game was published by Working Designs as "Thunder Force V: Perfect System" on PlayStation; it was never released in Europe.

It is the fifth game in the "Thunder Force" series and the last to be developed/published by Technosoft.

Unlike the previous games in the series, Thunder Force V features polygons for modeling ships and some sprites and scenarios entirely new to the series

As in the previous chapters, the player has a special weapon called a "CRAW," which increases the firepower of the player-controlled aircraft and absorbs enemy shots. The game allows three CRAWs-instead of two, as in the predecessors-to be used, which will remain on the screen for a limited period of time. CRAWs can also be combined with the currently selected weapon to create a more powerful version of it-an effect called "Over Weapon." This enhancement can be used for a limited time before the ship returns to its original state. Over Weapon creation consumes the energy of the CRAW, which can be replenished by collecting more CRAWs or by waiting for the one currently collected to recharge.

The game features a 2.5D perspective, with environments rendered in 3D and gameplay taking place on a 2D plane. As in previous games, gameplay revolves around completing each level as the player destroys enemies, dodging their projectiles and the enemies themselves. The player starts with a single-shot weapon (the standard weapon) and can collect more during each level.

There are seven levels in total, and the player can select the order in which the first three levels are played.
