Using an Aquarium Coop sponge filter to replace a water pump.

I'm thinking out of the box to solve an ongoing problem in my fishroom. I've already had to replace two water pumps on an aquarium because they have burnt out. I've been running the new Aquarium Coop sponge filter on my 125 and really see the water the sponge filter moves. That caused me to try and come up with a creative solution to my problem

Great idea! Those sponge filters can move a surprising amount of water. I've been using them to run my hang on the backs for 3-4 months and they have worked surprisingly well.

I don't understand why you don't just use the bent tube up-top and aim the out flow at your sump intake.you'll move all kinds of water from that dead corner.That's how there meant to be used.

Air pump is still mechanical. If it eliminates one extra plug that's cool. Air pumps use an electromagnetic field to pulse a piece of steel that is attach to a diaphragm and check valves. Waiting to see if it creates enough uplift to operate the sump. Here's a like!

I'm actually working on something similar for my plant grow project. I already have my whole lab filtered by air, why not push water around with it too! Great video!

pretty good thinking and another plus besides not consuming electricity and you will have less heat generated in your tank due to not having a pump running. way to go to think outside the norms!!
