This is my first look/initial impression of the Altra Lone Peak 4.5's and we will also take a look at the overall differences between the 4.5's and the Lone Peak 4.0's as well as the Timp 1.5's.

Researched the crap out of these and the Timp 2. I have wide feet and they are tighter in the mid foot, but that 29mm stack is just so luscious. I loved my LP4’s, but I’m hoping the Timp 2 will work out. Great comparison and you’re right, the Lone Peaks with that extra 4mm of stack would be amazing. Cheers.

Regarding painful heel cup, I just got a pair of scissors and snipped off the offending portion above the loops on the heel of the shoe. Problem solved, no more rubbed Achilles. The foam-like stuff inside doesn't leak out. No issues whatsoever. Try it.

Nice comparison and I like the more cushion on the bottom idea, like the Timp. I like my 4.0s but my feet aren’t tough enough on the bottom. I used to walk barefoot a lot when I was young and was hoping to toughen up. I don’t get to hike enough and the bottom of my feet hurt with heavy pack loads. I guess I got to hike more 😊

Hey Jason, I just ordered some 4.5's going to be my 1st time using zero drop shoes. Had been using Wildcats. Ready to try them out on trail.

Great first look Jason! Thanks for putting this out there. Was always a big fan of the 3.5’s myself. Debating picking up the 4.5’s.

What great timing! My 4's are getting a little long in the tooth, and I was about to start investigating the 4.5's. Appreciate this.

I got some for review but did not like the mid foot pinch. Glad I still have some 4.0s!. I've also been trying out Topo MTN Racers and I think I might make the switch.

You nailed it, combine the Timp with the 4.0. I just replaced my Timp 1.5 with the 2.0 and I think I will regret it. My Timp 1.5 sole needed glue after every trip (twice a month) so I thought the 2.0 would be better. However the upper changed, I don't like the feel.

I love my LP 4.0's, have an extra pair just waiting for my Camino if Europe ever reopens. Thanks for your thoughts!

I'm a Solomon looking forward to getting my feet into the Speedcross 4 . I hope you shoes do well for you. They have an aggressive tread pattern, that's for sure! I agree with you. Trail runners are the way to go. No ankle support makes for stronger ankles.

Great review Jason. My 3.5’s finally gave. Got at least 1, 000 miles on them. I agree I would love to see a lone peak with a higher stack cushion. Maybe the Olympus? Not sure yet. Even considering the Topo’s. Thanks

I've been looking into these. I live in south Florida so I've learned the waterproof is not the way to go. Between torrential rains, 95⁰ temps and wading through 6" plus water often times. My feet are gonna get soaked regardless. And waterproof just traps it in there and gets moldy fast. Want more protection than sandles. So hope these fast dry shoes maybe with some super thin or no socks would be a good strategy?

The Ultras 3.5 have the same d-ring as your 4.5

Not a bad little video for reviewing shoes
And quite informative as well

Excellent comparison. The rip in the Tim could be fixed if Altra would have added a protective rand around the shoe. The Timp 2.0 looks like it has the same issue. Which do you think is more breathable, the Lone Peak 4.0 or the 4.5? I had Lone Peak version 1 which was very breathable (you could see light passing through the mesh) but since then the upper became more and more dense.
