"It's usually edible" that's genius advice! I always ate my mistakes, and sometimes you discover new experiences, while you fear of failure slowly fades away.

"Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all." - Julia Child

Julia was a unique treasure and I learned to cook as a new bride in the 1960's. I credit her with my mastery of cooking. I miss you Julia❤

I wanted no part if the kitchen growing up. My only chore was to make the gravy when we had a roast. Oddly I learned to do that one thing very well. It wasn’t until Julia Child on public television that I developed an interest in cooking. I will never be the pastry pro my mother was but I have learned to be a fearless cook and most of what I cook is very good. The really wonderful thing about having Julia Child in our home on TV is that my children watched her too and my son who was the older child immediately found himself at home in the kitchen and loved to experiment with a new dish. He’s 52 now and still loves to cook. He does a grand impersonation of Julia extolling the virtues of real butter.

I've been watching old videos of Julia Child's The French Chef. Recently, lasagna la francaise, a 70's style dish with an onion flavored bechamel sauce made from canned and fresh tomatoes with leftovers from the fridge. She was pure wonderful and you can see her make mistakes all the time. She just laughs it off and rolls through it 😅 She was treasure 😊🙏 🕊️

I grew up watching Julia Child and, between her and my mother, she instilled a love of cooking in me. It's like painting. So long as you have a general idea of what goes with what the kitchen is your canvas and if what you made tastes good, you did it the right way. And if it doesn't? Well, you learn and try again.

She’s right, I eyeball all of my cooks and they still turn out great, just have confidence in your ability

IMHO cooking is as much and art as music, dance, sculpture, etc. It is one of the more accessible art forms for everyone and brings me much joy participating in my own small way

Julia Child is a legend. Much more appreciated now than she was when alive. Way ahead of her time.

The same goes for art; if you're fearful, you'll never pull it off.

I loved this woman from the first time I saw her show when I was a kid. Then I learned more about 'where she came from ', and she then became even more priceless. I miss her. It was a better world when she (and MANY others) were still around.

My dad loves Chinese food especially fried rice. Every year they leave and winter down in the south. Last winter I cooked myself fried rice 2 to 3 times a week. At first my fried rice was barely edible but by the time my parents came back I figured out how to make really good fried rice.
My dad who is always critical of food because of his past work in the food industry said that it was some of the best fried rice he had ever had... Then told me I should have added some diced ham 😅

She was always so wonderful 🌈🫶✨
I love that fear of "frying" Similar to fear of dying... And in life, we gotta just plunge in and make flops 💝🌞

Me when I go to make something but realize I lack an ingredient so I change plans and make something different.

As an example, I wanted to make a cottage pie today but found out all my potatoes I just bought Sunday were moldy(bagged potatoes, istg). So I made a deconstructed cheeseburger casserole instead. Caramelized onions, swiss cheese, tomato paste, gravy, and ground beef. All shoved into a dish and baked. It is actually pretty good.
