Man I miss the 1999-2003 All-Star games, the real competition spirit. 😢

Players from the losing team should get votes deducted in next year’s all star voting. That’s one way to keep them competitive. Players seem to consider it high honor to be an all star (and a huge snub and disrespect when not selected). So the risk of not getting selected because of getting less votes (due to deductions) should make them be more competitive to win the game. Home court advantage was already suggested before and it’s a ridiculous idea. It won’t bump the needle. The same way they did the 65 game rule, it has to apply to everyone and should hit the players where it matters most… their ego and/or their money.

It needs to be replaced for a 1v1 tournament between the all star players, just do the guards and front court players separately

Watching any Laker games living in Wisconsin gets hella annoying. Games “start” at 9 pm and luckily don’t actually start until 930 sometimes when I’m actually home from work. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn’t. I’d prefer to be able to tune in on my phone when the game is supposed to start. But I do feel like I’m just splitting hairs at this point. Just don’t want games ending around midnight 😩

People have been saying for so many years “we need to fix the all star game” when by the end of the day, if the players don’t want to compete, I ain’t watching. I haven’t watched the all star game 8 years now.

Hey JJ Redick, us old heads have been telling you this for years and you haven't been listening. The NBA has been out of control for the last 15 years. This new generation, doesn't have the competitiveness that older players did. Players had pride back in the day. Today, they simply don't care or have that Mamba mentality.

So true about the games!! Especially late games. I can’t stay up on a work night till 1am watching a game. It’s always 20-35 minutes late.

A simple answer: Cancel the all star game and add 5 off-days to the schedule. You could get rid of 5 back to back games for every team.

NBA all star game used to be must see TV. Guys like Isiah Thomas, Magic, Bird, McHale, Dr. J, just hated to lose at anything. You had 3 quarters of showboating, come the 4th quarter thigs tightened up in a hurry to the finish.

Here's something I don't get. For the In-Season Tournament, the players cared and played hard. Then the internet spent the next week arguing whether it means anything when clearly it was meaningful for the players and there was a high level of competition. But for the All- Star Game, which is explicitly an exhibition game, the internet complains that the players don't care. Maybe it's just me. I don't give a darn about the All-Star Game. Never have. Get rid of it. Makes no difference to me. I'm totally fine paying extra attention to the In-Season Tournament instead, and I'm looking forward to it next year.

Easy to solve this: the players of the team that loses the all star game get their contract salary cut for the next 3 years by 10% capped to 10 millions, and 1 game off on each play off series they play this in the same year of the all star.

Couple of questions:
1. When discussing GOATs, do you take all star wins and stats into consideration?
2. Does it affect your team at all if your conference loses?
3. What would be your reaction to a star player getting hurt playing in the all star game?
4. What would you think of a player that went all out in the all star game, got hurt and cost them a chance at a ring?

You answer these honestly and you know why the game is what it is. Easy for fans to want more effort but as soon as their star player is out for the season because he was trying so hard to win a meaningless game.

5 minute games, no timeouts.
5v5 mini tournament. East v West, 1st team v 2nd team, or 4 team draft.
More crunch time, teams that don't try get booted quick.

The lack of defense is painful to watch. They just don't try to win. I was asking myself, why I am watching this. The west did not even tried to make a push to cut down the East league. It was frustrating. If they keep like this is better to cancel the game. If they don't want to get injured for the post season, it is better if they do this game after the NBA finals.

Why not have the AllStars compete against regular NBA players? And give the regular players an incentive to go hard, like a bonus for the AllStar weekend if their team wins? You can have 4 total teams, which each game being only 2 quarters length in time. In this way, you don't have to reduce the number of AllStars that are permitted to play every year. Each player also isn't playing for more time than they would be playing with the current setup. That's one way to make it competitive

I mean injuries make them not want to play legit, imagine getting injured during an all star game
