The chapter on Nihilism wasn’t in Neo’s copy. He hollowed out that chapter. It’s like he read the first page and deemed the chapter unnecessary. Neo has a hope in something more. That’s why he searches so hard online for answers. If he were a nihilist, he wouldn’t care about evidence of the matrix, Morpheus or Trinity. In place of those pages, Neo stored his data-discs - things that were important and fundamental to his personality. Those aren’t the actions of a nihilist.

consider this everyone; The Matrix is actually Skynet of a parallel reality that won its' war against humanity and the matrix franchise is the next logical step in the terminator storyline.

I am starting the think that the simulation, the "real world" and the "machine world" were all a part of a larger system of control that even the Architect and The Oracle were not aware of.

Hyperreality is not a "false reality." According to Baudrillard, hyperreality is reality. It is, however, reality completely untethered from the "real." In the opening of Simulations, Baudrillard compares hyperreality to something like a topographicical map placed over the actual topography of the land. What makes it hyperreal is that there is no topography underneath. For lack of a better term, the approximation is the real. A good illustration of hyperreality is the prefabricated cityscape. In many towns and cities, there are sections that are constructed so as to mimic the old town square, complete with clock tower and all. Yet unlike the actual town square of old, these prefab squares can and are essentially erected overnight and replicated wherever they are needed or not needed. And unlike the actual town square, these complexes serve no real purpose aside from blatant consumerism. Whereas the town square usually serves are a functional seat of local government and artisan shops (shoe maker, tax attorney, bike shop, etc), the simulated square has no attachment to the local community. In other words, they are created to approximate function. That's why many such simulations sit empty or are constantly changing from one business to the next. One day ice cream and soda shop, the next day bail bondsman or pet store. In reality, an old town square had an ice cream and soda shop that served the entire community. When your boots needed repairing, the cobbler was always there. Not so with these simulations. But for all this, these "squares" are just as real as that which they simulate. And as urban sprawl and poor planning moves us further and further away from the courthouse square, these prefab constructions become the real, they are hyperreal. Another concrete example would be a Las Vegas like re-creation of an actual city, Paris or London for example. If Paris, Texas erected a life sized Eiffel Tower of their own, what would be the difference between the original and the simulation? Nothing. Both would be of the same size, same dimensions, same materials. Both would also be in Paris. Hyperreality is reality. Baudrillard asks the reader to consider the difference between a bank robbery and a simulated robbery. For those being robbed, the simulation would be no less real than an actual robbery.
In his essays "The Gulf War will not take place, " and "The Gulf War did not take place" Baudrillard demonstrates that the so called war was actually a televised, simulated spectacle on the order of Guy Debord's "Society of the Spectacle." This is not to say that lives were not lost in the Gulf War, as Baudrillard says death in hyperreality is death in reality. Yet for the average individual, especially Americans, there was no war effort. No taxes were raised. No sacrifices like those during WW2 affected the nation. No armies met on the field of battle. The Gulf War did not take place. This is hyperreality, patriot and scud missiles and all. And furthermore, no enemy was vanquished. Saddam Hussein was an ally and an asset in the 1980s, during the Iran-Iraq War. The Gulf War did not take place.
As for the movie itself, Baudrillard rightly compared the Matrix film to a shallow understanding of Plato's allegory of the cave. In the allegory, those who are chained in the cave watch as shadows pass along the cave walls. For the watchers, the shadows are reality itself. Once the shackled become free and leave the cave, they are blinded and overwhelmed by the light of the real world. After adjusting there eyes to the real world however, those who have been freed (the philosophers to Plato) are able to re-enter the cave and slowly unchain the others. (This is just a half assed summary of the allegory, obviously) This is akin to Neo, who has been freed from the shadowed cave, being able to re-enter the cave to bring others into the light. But as Baudrillard stated, there is no escaping the matrix of simulated hyperreality. Hyperreality is reality. There is no waking up from the hyperreal. Perhaps this is why the sequels play out as they do. It seems like the Wachowskis took Baudrillard's critique to heart, thus creating a deeper level of the matrix. Now, instead of being freed to the real world, to Zion, Zion itself is just another level of the simulation. Similar to the Cube trilogy. There is the Cube, the Hypercube, and the final Cube in which we learn that those overseeing those within the Cube are also within the Cube themselves. But whatever. This is what happens when you major in philosophy and American history in university as I did. You end up being able to pontificate on such trivialities for hours on end plus get saddled with insurmountable student loan debt! A win win. Praise Bob!

We all do sometimes but, French people tend to be a little smuggy when criticizing others. Perhaps Baudrillard also didn't understand the Matrix as well. As the first Matrix just told about the Simulation, but Reloaded and Revolutions revealed many things about Simulacra.

Best video yet. If reincarnation is a real thing, we might finally begin to understand why we keep repeating the cycle of life. We have no memories of our prior lives, like the Matrix and Neo. Neo is the sixth reincarnation. As you state about the book, it is hollow, Nihilism is the title of the chapter and Federal Reserve Notes are predicated. Does DISK x67 reference 67, 1967, the year Lilly Wachowski was born? I would love to hear the channel owner’s thoughts about this on future videos.

We cannot fight delusion / illusion when they're already accepted and acknowledged, respected and forcefully placed in our interpretation of what is real or unreal towards reality. If nothing really exist then we are the source supplying the lies that we exist, how we co exist on any conscious level of existence. So, how to stop? And, if we do, what next then?
