Turkish President Erdogan says ‘Islamic world’ is watching Turkey’s upcoming elections

Turkish President Erdogan told thousands of supporters in Ankara on Tuesday that “the whole Islamic world follows 14 May”, referring to the upcoming elections in Turkey.

Erdogan will be trying to secure a second term under Turkey’s new presidential system that was implemented after a referendum in 2017. If he succeeds it will be his third time winning the presidency, after having served as Turkey’s prime minister between 2003 and 2014.

Erdogan’s main rival in May’s elections will be Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Nation Alliance, but Turks will also be able to cast their vote for Muharrem Ince, who lost the 2018 presidential election to Erdogan, or Sinan Ogan.

He is right, I’m watching from Malaysia. Erdogan has massive support from the muslim community in Malaysia because of his Islamic credentials, as compared to his western-leaning opponent Kemal. I imagine the preferred candidate is the same too in Indonesia. BUT it’s an entirely Turkish people’s decision. I wish all the best to the Turkish people, they may vote whomever they see as the fittest person to lead Turkiye.
