Fix: Unable to Print PDFs on Both Sides of the Paper

Today I could print Microsoft Word files on both sides of a piece of paper but could not print PDFs on both sides. I’m using Windows 10 and a Brother HL series printer but I suspect this works for other printers and versions of Windows as well.

Enabling double-sided printing on a Brother printer for PDF files requires a few steps, but it is relatively straightforward (relative to rocket science).

First, go to the Control Panel on your computer and select Devices and Printers. Find the icon for your Brother printer, right-click on it, and select Printer Properties from the drop-down menu.

In the Printer Properties window, click on the Device Settings tab. Look under the Installable Options section for the Duplex Unit setting. From the drop-down menu, select Installed to indicate that your printer has the capability to print on both sides of the page.

Then you can print in Acrobat and select Print on Both Sides.

Whew!

Note: Specifically I am printing on a Brother HL-L2340D series printer.

Followed all the instrcutions. It was already on 'installed'. went back to 'unistalled' and then went back in to reverse it back to 'inatalled'. Either way, the option to print on both sides did not appear.
