Melvina is my mother's name, born in Mississippi and just turned 90. Daughter of Beatrice. Was moved to tears when I let her hear this song. Original blues was all over the deep south, but the heart was in Mississippi. (Crossroads)

This is a totally under-rated album. It's great! When it first came out I was 16 years old. I bought out and I played it over and over. Great musicianship from the backing band, and their respect for Howling Wolf is deep and sincere. Excellent guitar work by Clapton.

Clapton on slide? Folks don’t talk about what a great slide player he is! He was so accurate the first time I heard him take it on. What the hell is that, does he have perfect pitch? Like his vocals, they were good right away too. I say God spilled the talent when he was dishing it out!

Can only imagine what these young Brits were feeling while backing up the real deal - Howlin' Wolf. Chill Bump City.

While this song is about US Highway 49 thru Mississippi, there is a California State Highway 49 that twists & winds its way thru the Gold Country, including a city named Jackson. It's on the list of Top 10 motorcycle roads in the world. When I discovered Real Blues in early 1995 and after many years got back on a motorcycle to go chase them, I would often go ride CA 49. I would sing this song out loud going down that road with people looking at me like I was crazy. I didn't care.

The late Jeff Carp on harmonica. What a player he was.

Great version of this song. I still find it hard to believe that many people claim to not know where rock 'n roll music came from.

I understand why Eric Clapton has returned to the Blues--first and foremost.
