Mechanized infantry will be replacing their old M2 Bradley with a new remote controlled Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle. The US Army will be spending a projected $4.5 billion in total on the program. 5 companies are in the competition including the usual suspects and a scrappy new face. 2028 is the project first year that units will get the new vehicle. Infantry will be transported to the battlefield either the Lynx KF 41, Griffin III, Redback IFV, or the CV 90.

With companies like Raytheon, Rheinmetall, Textron, General Dynamics and Oshkosh it's exciting to see what they'll cook up in the defense industry.

Each of these infantry fighting vehicles will have better armor, higher firepower and more mobility than its predecessor. Find out why the army is replacing the Bradley and what new vehicles are in the running. This will be a companion armored personnel carrier to the M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank.

Task & Purpose is a military news and culture oriented channel. We want to foster positive fun discussion about the defense industry.

Which vehicle do you think would be the best replacement for the Bradley? Lynx, Griffin III, Redback or CV90 ?

The CV90 should be the winner here. The suspension upgrades are incredible and the space for the dismounts is excellent. I’ve only reviewed armored vehicles for 30 years so….

It needs firing ports.
Also needs a larger turret.
Heavier armor.
Must fit fewer troops, hold more ammo.
Let’s just make it amphibious while we’re at it.

Have it done Monday. Good talk, I’m off to play 18 holes with the Senator.

Bonus points to you for actually reading the footnotes and putting a Congressional requirement in context!

From working on this platform for a while I think the technology within the vehicle needs to be upgraded massively. I believe that’s the main issue with the Bradley. So many new systems being integrated into a old platform is the main issue with the brad. The old platforms can’t handle all the new tech being fit in there

Knowing the US army, it'll be the Griffin III. If it was my choice however, as a proud Red Team fan, I'd pick the Redback. It has Red in it's name, what more could you want?

Go for the CV90 with the Bofors 40mm autocannon. Combine with 3P ammunition for maximum enemy annihilation. Combat proven, extreme mobility and too much firepower.

In the Netherlands we use the CV90-35Nl for 10 years now but we use 6 to 7 soldiers in the back so when you deploy 2 lynx with 18 soldiers we show up with 3 CV90's and out gun the linx with 3 35mm canons and 3 turret mounted machine guns for the same amount of soldiers

The AS-21 Redback is a "pimped-out, Aussie style" version of the South Korean Hanwa's K-21 IFV (which has been in service since 2009 in the Korean Army).

There's also a 120mm version of the CV90. Along with Anti-Air systems. Of all the systems the CV-90 is the most adaptable.

With the ever increasing firepower on IFVs, you should do a video about where the lines are drawn between IFVs and just a tank with troops.

We need this but keep it around 36000 lbs so we can airlift it

Textron is also known for the TAPV.... so I wouldn't get too excited about it

I have a gut feeling that general dynamics will be the one chosen

It would be great if the next vehicle has isolastic seat mounts to absorb the sudden kinetic impulse from IED's, because spinal injuries and leg fractures can also slow down your warfighter.

I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver mine now! 😂

Maybe I don't understand wireless signals and jamming as well as I think I do, but I feel like a remote control tank/IFV is a bad idea.

Change the carriage to a wheeled vehicle like the French AMX 30 for increased speed which can be decisive on the battlefield.
