Regarded by many critics as Ray Charles' best studio albums, Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music Volumes 1 & 2 have been considered by countless music publications to not only be landmark albums in American music but some of the greatest albums ever recorded.

Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music Vol.1 became an instant classic when it was first released in 1962. The album's integration of soul and country music bent racial barriers in popular music, amid the height of the Civil Rights Movement. In the process of recording the album, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to exercise complete artistic control over his own recording career.

The album charted at #1 for 17 weeks and was certified RIAA Gold – the first country album to ever achieve that honor. Since then, Vol. 1 has since been inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame, along with its chart-topping single “I Can’t Stop Loving You”, for historical significance.

The success led to the recording of Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, Vol. 2. Focusing more on balladry, one side featured performances by the Ray Charles Big Band with the Raelettes, and the other with a string section and the Jack Halloran Singers. Like its predecessor, it was released to both critical and commercial acclaim.

Both volumes are now available on remastered CD, digital and vinyl, with a deluxe audiophile vinyl package coming in the spring.

Not a diehard country fan here, but Don Gibson wrote one of the finest songs ever written...it's a ballad, not a song you want ot speed up or do a Punk Rock version if one has any musical sensibility left lol. Loses it's tenderness if you do that. There are elements of a pop ballad in this song, and, rhythm and blues...it is a universal song. The guitar playing in this recording is spectacujlar as well. Ray Charles started out playing piano in a country band...many people did not know this for decades...Ray Charles showed the connection between Country and Rhythm and Blues music by doing this.Ray heard the connection between all styles of music where others wanted to separate themselves as in"you stay in your neighborhood, I'll stay in mind" musical mentality...At the time of Ray's country album releases, African Americans were somewhat confused why he had "swtiched" to country music, some white Americans didn't like the idea either for obvious racist reasons. But through these recordings, for which he won Grammies, he helped bridge a gap between people and their subculture musicla preferences. He planted a seed. He was insistent he do these albums against the control freak producers wishes and idelaogy of separatism in music. It took a blind man man to see this. Today we still have separatism in music caused by the music indusry bigwigs cashing in on it, and yet we have young people of all backgrounds online discovering all kinds of music, on reactor channels, n wittingly breaking that barrier down again by their openmindedness. Bravo. I was a school music teacher

Found this song through the film adaptation of Metropolis, based off of the Manga of the same name. No spoilers but the way they use it in the movie just chokes me up thinking about. Beautiful song that has luckily passed the test of time and continues to give. That old choir sound is just irreplaceable.

when i was in grade school, my dad was tending bar on weekends at Randolph AFB near San Antonio, Tx. I spent a Saturday hanging out with him in the bar-WITH RAY CHARLES-who was rehearsing for his show that night. He was so nice-i sat next to him and we sang together-he could not see but he sure could hear and feel-a REAL GREAT SOUL. I worked for weeks after school to earn the few dollars to buy his album, Ingredients in a Recipe for Soul--PERFECTION--all heart AND soul...so grateful for that connection!!!

One of my favourite Ray Charles songs.
It swishes and sways and just feels peaceful. Part of Ray Charles really was a country music artist.

Listen carefully to these lyrics. Don Gibson wrote this and although like most songs the lyrics repeat however for those that fall in love for the first time and it doesn't work out then one may never forget WHO that other one was. Charles's rendition in 1962 though made it famous and was by far my favorite song of his.
