SYNOLOGY BLUE LIGHT FLASHING | Synology ds 918+ | Tutorial 🔥

The Synology NAS Drive is a decent home office backup RAID Server and when it comes to issues, it can be the worst. I've encountered the same and the problem is that if the blue light keeps on flashing there are few things which you can do and might help.
1. Turn off / remove all drives
2. Remove the RAM and the SSD
3. Turn on and check
If it stops then probably it's one of the devices which is faulty and if it doesn't then its the motherboard which usually at this stage needs to be sent back to the service centre.

did you check the clock battery? mine did this (already had the 100 Ohm resistor fix) I checked the battery, less than 0, 1V I replaced it with a new CR1220 3V battery and now the unit is working perfectly fine again

I have a DS216Play with the symptoms described in the video (i guess faulty motherboard) - can I just purchse another empty DS216Play chassis and plug my two drives in and it will work as normal, or do I need to purchase a larger DS product with more drive bays and do a Hyper Backup to restore my data onto the new DS?

Overnight my synology ds918 + stopped working.

the blue led was flashing and the fan was blowing intermittently when I noticed it.
So I restarted it (by force) no other choice.
when restarting, it turns off by itself along with the hard drives.
When I remove the hard drives and the ram bar, the NAS constantly has the blue led blinking.

And when I remove the hard drives and keep the ram bar inside, the nas has the static blue led and also the orange stats led flashing.
and the synology is visible on my mac from the "SynologyAssistant" application.

Could it be the motherboard as well, despite these different tests?

is it safe to just disconnect the hard drives without powering it down first? but i can't power it down first. i have a DS220j.

I had the same problem. Took out the RAM and tested it with new Ram without success. At this point, I thought I might have also lost the motherboard. I then reinserted the old RAM and tried one last startup with everything disconnected. For some strange reason, the NAS booted. I added all the drives and network connection and all is fine now. Maybe worth trying a few things before writing off the motherboard.

Hello, how are you doing? I'm from Argentina and I know that error. You have to reflow the microprocessor or solder a 100k ohm resistor on the board. if you do that you resuscitate the NAS

Strange advices here: pushing reset button is useless when you suppose motherboard is dead. How you expect it to start without any RAM? If you remove SSD - congratulations, you are at risk of crashing your RAID because you've remived its cache. Please, learn how to turn off the device with a long press of the power button before recording such videos in the future.

Now, the real advice: First you should do when seeing infinitely flashing blue light is to check your PSU - unfortunately, official support will not tell you to.

Hi, Thanks for the video... I have the same issue with the blinking blue power light... My DS918+ worked fine for 3.5 years without any issue or unexpected shut down. Then I moved to another appartment (shut it down normally and moved it to the new place - without any damages or fallen boxes or anything) on the new place I pluged it in and there was the blinking blue light. I will try to change the battery on the motherboard... I hope this will help... very disappointed about this (my whole life is on that NAS)

Thanks for the video. Synology is really unreliable. It happens to me as well, I've only used this for around 1 year or less. What a joke.
