Lyrics

Walking down the market streets in Morocco
When an old man came up to me
He said 'Rasta, come here, have a look what I got
Have a look yeah, coz looking is free'

I say 'Thanks but no thanks, didn't bring that much money,
I'm gonna save it for the things that I need'
And he looks me up and down and he says with a smile
He says, 'Rasta, do you wanna buy some weed?'

He said, 'Rasta do you wanna go fly in the sky
Rasta don't you want to get high?
And watch all your worries and your troubles pass you by
Rasta don't you want to fly'

Jamming with the clan we were a traveling band
Playing in Marrakech park just after 3am
A little boy across the street came over to listen
And he asked us if he could play

He was eight years old with no home for his younger brothers
And he could play the drums better than me
He was high as a kite from sniffing glue all night
And as I wondered if he'd make it to sixteen he asked me

Shelley do you wanna go fly in the sky
Shelley don't you want to get high?
And watch all your worries and your troubles pass you by
Shelley don't you want to fly'

Running through the streets at night
I was approached by a guy
Who held out his palm to me
And my money was in my pocket but my sex was in the air
And I knew he thought he was giving me a real good fright

As I turned around to leave through his toothless grin he whispered
'Rasta I'm gonna love you tonight!'

He said, 'Rasta do you wanna go fly in the sky
Rasta don't you want to get high?
And watch all your worries and your troubles pass you by
Rasta don't you want to, don't you want to

Shelley do you wanna go fly in the sky
Shelley don't you want to get high?
And watch all your worries and your troubles pass you by
Shelley don't you want to fly'

It's really quite fascinating to be able to perceive Morocco through the eyes of a foreigner, a stranger to this land. Shelley looks like an earthly individual that's been around, has seen things and done things, the fact that she dedicated a fraction of her creative mind to my country actually flatters me. she didn't state anything out of the ordinary, Morocco is the largest producer of cannabis, we have around 30K homeless kids, and whether u like it or not, the sex industry is pretty much a big, but underground business here. However, keep in mind that u'll be treated differently as a foreigner in morocco, and you will merely be offered what other foreigners typically ask for, laws of supply and demand =/... In my long years living in Morocco I can honestly state that I have never been offered weed, never got mugged, etc. And Shelley, if you're reading this, ignore the backlash from fellow (uneducated) Moroccans, don't blame them, they're just sheep,   I actually came here from an article saying that u insulted Morocco, and tarnished it's image. Imagine my surprise when I discovered your sweet voice and lovely music. More power to you, and just keep swimming.

Truth hurts sometimes. Reality is hard. Fantasy is lazy and easy. Fun song that speaks truth and reality. Moroccans, you have good and bad like everywhere else, that's reality and you know it. Thanks Shelley!

I am half Moroccan, Half New Zealander! I have lived in Morocco for nearly ten years. People this is what happens everyday for tourists walking through the medina.... she has the right to sing about the reality in Morocco. And come on you guys cant laugh at yourselfs. Getting insulted about something so small. Its not even an insult. You guys are living in a bubble not in Morocco! Idiots.. Thanks for a great song!

Come on folks, she just highlighted what is really happening in our country, you should learn to say thank you, instead of insulting her !

I had no negative thoughts about Morocco after listening to this song. I wish I could say the same thing after reading the comments here.

I can't understand how anyone could have a problem with this song. The lyrics come from a place of truth and personal experience, and that includes the good and bad in those experiences. If you only focus on the negitive then you are missing out on the full message. I interpret this song to be about escapism, that may have not been the artists intention but listening to it with that interpretation it has nothing to do with a country and more to do with the human experience as a whole. I find this to be a very good song, and the fact that it has caused some controversy only goes to show that anyone can interpret art however they choose. If you feel as if this song is a condemnation of your nation, then somewhere inside of you, your inner condemnation of your country is brought out by this song and that's what music is supposed to do. Another masterpiece as usual Shelly, you are an amazing artist.

she is criticizing weed ?  Lol   what ?  first of all, it is not a harmful substance if used correctly …  the lyrics are kinda weird.. if she wants to criticize a government there are better ways to do that but her video and her song makes it seem she doesn't appreciate a distinct culture from hers and worse.. it can be offensive to moroccans.  She should sing songs criticizing how racist Australians are to ethnic minorities and how it should stop being pro zionist ...

I am a morroccan, and this song describes how we really live, I was impressed by that, because a lot of foreigners who visit our country does not now about all this, sagan, you are my best singer, you took the place of katy perry in my heart 😂♥

This is such a cool song. In another comment section, someone was saying something about this being an anti Islam song. I don't get that impression at all. It's such a catchy tune though. I love it!

After all this time, still think this is one of your best.
You manage to bring such a sour subject to light with such a hip sound.
I can't help but come back every now and again to be lulled by your beautiful voice yet again.
