As a Canadian, I find it so weird that Americans say “I’m a Republican” or “I’m a Democrat”. As if somehow it’s part of their identity, like ethnicity or gender - or something they’re born into. A Canadian would never say “I’m a Liberal” — they’d say “I vote Liberal” or “I’m voting Liberal this time”. Politics is something Canadians do, not something we be, and our vote is free every election and has to be earned. In fact, if someone ever said “I’m a Liberal” people would think they’re nuts. So yeah I find this American way of talking about political, parties very strange.
