Install spray foam insulation DIY! When you do window, door or trim spray foam, remember the basics! Spray foam insulation, like from Loctite or Great Stuff will expand. Spray foam expands about 3x its size from when you spray it out. It is ok to have a little excess. Just use a insulation knife and cut it flush for a professional installation. Maximize your energy savings and the warmth in winter and keep the coolness in during the summer with properly insulated windows and doors!

I use an oscialliating tool. Works great. You can even catch the foam before it hits the ground. So no cleanup

I think one of those razor blades that are meant for scraping windows would work even better on that excess. I'm even thinking I've used my Ryobi 18v multi tool with the saw blade on it before. Super smooth cut.

here's a pro tip misting water on it makes it cure faster and any serrated bread knife like the cheap ones at the dollar store work great or even a bare utility knife blade or your fingers because kinda flush isn't good enough some times and it's not like your digging it all out and when it comes to picking the brand pick the cheaper or more convenient option and the guns are only worth it if your really a professional so stick to the cans

So in other words, "Pro tip: read the instructions on the can."😂

I would not use expandable foam around windows as the foam can expand so much it pushes the window from being level, use a foam that does not expand and just fill the gaps

I am wanting to put spray foam in my van. The studs on the walls have holes in them. I am wondering, rather than fill the studs with foam; could you tape over the holes? Then spray foam over the taped areas to create a continuous barrier.

So when you do this, do you try to fill the entire void between the window and framing or just create a seal between the two? My house is framed with 2x6
