Did You Know In YELLOWSTONE…

The Native American community actually called for a boycott of the show to ask all Native American actors to stay away from the project entirely. This came after the announcement of Kelsey Asbille Chow playing the Native American wife of one of the main characters. While Kelsey is of mixed Asian American ethnicity, she claimed to have descended from an Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The tribe came forward to issue a statement that said they had no record of her being a descendant. On the other hand of things, after seeing Kelly Reilly’s audition tape, Taylor Sheridan knew immediately that he only wanted her to play the role of Beth Dutton.

Tribe don't keep record of members who left. My family is not recorded

I'm 1/8 Ojibwe and basically look white. But I'm a tribal member and my grandfather grew up on the reservation. The situation with Natives is incredibly complicated. You can have tribal members like myself with low quantum or high quantum natives with little to no records. Neither paper records NOR DNA tests can give you the full picture. I don't think it's fair to disregard natives who don't have records because there could be so many reasons why that is. I also don't think it's fair to disregard people like me who are mixed races/low blood quantum because my skin doesn't account for my cultural upbringing or family ties. It's an incredibly complicated matter, but I think the actress doesn't deserve a boycott just because she doesn't have paperwork. It's bizarre that we treat people like dogs with a pedigree.

They have no record for my late grandmother, my late mom or me even though I still carry my tribal ID card. They do that to all of us because it’s about money these days. 😢

I'm Native American but my tribe is not big enough to be legally recognized by the government. What a shitshow this is lol

It’s literally depicted in the show that Tribes will up their % to exclude people from the tribe to keep more profit. She may be of mixed heritage with Asian but that doesn’t mean she’s not native as well. Obviously this is anecdotal but one of my friends is Cherokee and looks VERY similar to this actress.

This is ridiculous! Not all Native Americans descendants are registered with their corresponding tribes. My husband's' grandmother was 50% Cherokee, he's not registered and neither are our kids. That doesn't negate their bloodlines and we don't feel it's something that needs to be done.

She’s from the Eastern Band, which is the Cherokee who stayed in Georgia and didn’t go to Oklahoma on the trail of tears, in order to stay in Georgia they had to give up their tribal sovereignty so that lines up that there wouldn’t be the tribal records bc the whole deal with getting to stay in GA was giving that up.

My husband's grandfather was a victim of the residential schools in Canada and they burned all his documents saying he was native and he never re registered because he, after fighting in WW2 thought of it as being labeled like Hitler did to the Jewish people.

Funny part is I'm a member of the Cherokee Nation through my dad's side of the family my mom is but since her great-grandfather denied getting a number and being a registered member of the tribe they don't count as members anymore so their bloodline doesn't count for my family my native American blood would almost double if they would register her side of the family

MONICA Dutton. Beth Dutton is the name of Kevin Costner's daughter in the show, whereas Monica is his daughter in law.

Ah, yes, people that have most likely never even met her are going to tell her what her ethnicity is...Right 🙄

Means absolutely nothing, my grandfather lived on tribal land as a young child and moved off of it around 10 when his father was able to by farm land in the early 50’s.To this day they claim that they have no record of him of my great grandmother…… except…… you know the few dozens or so pictures of all the extended family on the land at that time that my great grandfather took. But great grandma married a white man and all of their children were half white so I guess they just don’t exist…….. except he’s in his 80’s now still going on about it😂

EVERYONE claims to be descendants of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. And 99 times out of 100, they’re NOT. BUT Yellowstone is a fcking AWESOME show!!

The no record part pisses me off. Like they carry a huge family tree around saying who's who. It's called a DNA test.

I’m sure they have no record of my great grandmother or grandmother either despite my great grandmother being 100% Native American.

My cousin, all our lives was born and raised in the Philippines. Did a DNA test and she has Native American blood, albeit very little. We have Iberian blood too, so our guess is someone from here a long time ago went to the Philippines and we were the result of that. This actress can very well have the same thing that happened to her.
