I bought these in in May, and this is very accurate. I bought them as someone who has a fast swing speed but inconsistent striking (athletic beginner you could say) and a handicap of 24 and straight away found distance control difficult as really true strikes would fly so so far (200 yard 7 irons and 155 yard 45 degree "gap", which i now know is everyone else's pitching wedge). My handicap is now 16.7 and. I play with two guys off 6 and 11 (we all drive similar distance, the 6 ~10 yards further consistently) and pick my club by asking what they're playing and taking the number above out of my bag, often to still be long. I've had to buy new 50 and 54 degree wedges to build my own "gapping solution" These are Vokey blades... I love them so much more hit the 50 115 yards really consistently and bang on 100 for the 54. In summary everything you said here resonated and I feel more and more that I bought the wrong clubs. This is despite me loving the look. In short, only buy these if you really struggle for distance. Open to recommendations on what to go for next! :D

Simon great video, I bought G430 irons with power spec back in July 2024. I was fitted with a blue dot. I’m 5’9” and wrist to floor of 32.750 “. I have struggled to hit these irons. Ping has increased the standard length from the old Ping specs. I had 1/2” taken off my 4, 5, and 6 iron plus having the lie change to standard loft. I still struggle to hit consistent shots. Prior to getting the G430’s I was playing with Ping Rapture irons black dot. I hit these irons constantly good. After getting the 430 iron I kept changing my swing until everything I hit was bad. I had been very consistent and long with my G430 woods which I purchased a year earlier. It got so bad I went back and started playing with my old Rapture irons. Finally my game turned around and improved. The only reason I upgraded to G430 is because I’m 65 and lost a lot of distance and figured I could get some back with the newer irons. So after some a lot of reading up I decided I wish I could try a set of Ping irons that are red dot. I bought full set of Ping Rapture version 2. These irons are red dot with regular flex graphite shafts. I’ve played with these over a month and hit these irons extremely well. So I’ve order new G430 red dot with
Regular CB CB ALTA shaft. I have found that hitting solely of the plastic board measuring system is not totally reliable for proper fitting. If you’ve ever hit off these carpeted surfaces it’s hard to tell if you hit a fat shots because the clubs bounce off the carpet. I googled my thoughts found a great article addressing this in GOLF DIGEST. There article confirmed my thoughts. If you get fitted indoors that you also need to find a grass tee to make sure these clubs fit your need. If the clubs are to long or the lie is not correct fat shots typically could be an issue while testing off grass. After going to grass if the fit isn’t right the fat shots will show up. Great comments about the G430’s being extremely longer than standard. Because of this I’ve ordered my new irons with stand spec. Ping also offers a RETRO SPEC which the old standard loft which is the old standard loft that all clubs had in old days. These G430 really are very forgiving clubs. When I did hit good shots with my G430’s the ball jumped off the club. I’m getting my distance back from years ago. Apologize for such long article. I hope it can help someone.

I have the G430s from 5-PW with the 45 and 50. I dropped 6 strokes off my handicap in one season. these irons are point and shoot. Say what you will great set of clubs.

Having played Titleist forged forever, I tried these in regular flex graphite shaft, 1/2 shorter with 4 tape midsize grips, went to the range using trackman and logged how far I hit my new irons. Without changing my swing speed, I found them to be ever so slightly longer but nothing I can’t handle on the course. Horses for courses I reckon.

Liking PING. Just booked a fitting. Looking forward to play the i230 irons in the future. Already played with them and really like the look and feel.

I have G430s and I love them. I don’t understand your issue with loft & length. If your 7 goes too far, just play an 8 iron instead! It’s just a number. I would personally welcome a complete switch to degrees on clubs instead of numbers, like most manufacturers are already doing with wedges. Having said that, although I’m a 16 handicapper, I’m a pretty short hitter, so it all works for me very nicely.

After a bit of a hiatus and 9 year old irons in the bag, I'm just steering clear of any SGI irons. Its either buy 6 or 7 iron to sandwedge, or something more player with a 30 something 7iron and 45 PW

Good video Simon! I'm so tired of the manufacturing jacking up lofts and distance ! Maybe we will all just need a 7 iron and 12 different wedges 😅😅😅 keep up the good work young Fan from the USA

We all don’t enjoy your level of excellence with a golf club, , I’m 63 and have had multiple back surgeries, , I love these things, , I know how far everyone of them goes and they have put the love of golf back in my heart, , I filled out the bottom with extra wedges and voila back to 8 handicap golf

I got custom fitted for G430’s around a year ago. I saw an immediate improvement in my game going from a 30 handicap I knocked 6 shots off my average round first time out then two more on the second outing. Now a year later I’m playing off a 17.9 and still falling handicap, my current average round is 14-16 over. I’ve also added an average of 30 yards per club over the year. I couldn’t recommend them more

You are da man!!!

I’m playing 50 yr old Walter Hagen Ultradyne ii.

Outrageously fun!!!

Old blades are better for your game than such a large chuck of metal

Come on guys, you can do it!

All the Best!!!

I just traded my G430's in. I had the exact same problems as in this video. Couldn't get comfortable with the distances on the course, or overall feel at all. I went with the wilson D9 forged now. More traditional lofts and much better feel being forged.

I have to say thank you for making this video. I’ve been considering on buying another set of pings. My father gave me his old set of i3s four years ago. So I’m looking to get a new set this year and I was debating on what to get. I’m definitely stuck on ping.

This is really interesting to me. I was fitted for the G430's and concluded I did not want a bag that required 5 wedges (the sales guys never mentioned the 'traditional loft' option). I wound up buying the G425's because they were much cheaper. I actually searched online for the G410's but they were not a whole lot less expensive used than the G425's were used.

I have the G410s. Swing speed of 88. My 7 iron goes 140. Just got fitted for the 430s today. I was getting 8 to 10 yards more on each iron. I also switched to graphite shaft.
