TIPS | PACKING FOR SLEEPAWAY SUMMER CAMP!

We were SO confused packing last year, but now Presley and I know what she actually needs for sleepaway camp, things to bring that aren't on the list, and what NOT to do if you don't want your clothes stained! ;).

Just wanted to add… BRING A WATCH! If it’s a no electronics camp like mine, everyone is going crazy about the time of day by the end of the first week. 100% the item people most regret not bringing.

Edit: Back from camp and it’s also a good idea to bring baby powder and sharpies (for shirt signing).

Games are definitely important!
I would add sanitary pads if your child or their friends are in an age where there is any chance they might start their period. Of course they could also ask the camp counselors but asking and telling your friends is definitely a bonding experience.

And a book or two to read alone or with friends.

Some of my favorite off the list suggestions are collapsible cubes(love those for organizing shoes, accesories, etc), an off the bed organizer(holds books, waterbottles, etc), a shower caddy+ shower shoes, packing cubes, frienship string, pictures of friends/family/fairy lights, an off the door hook for your towels and things in the shower, a hanging toiletry organizer, and little pillows to decorate with. Sometimes sleeping bags can be helpful to use as cushion to make camp mattresses more comfortable.

Another tip is to spray your bunk with bug spray when you get there- it helps to ward off bugs overnight. Hope this helps!

I may not be a mom but this past month I was a camp counselor at a sleep away camp and LOVED IT! I was also a camper for 9 years so I picked up a thing or two when it came to packing! Here is my personal must haves that are not on the packing list at camps (my camp was always a month long so it’s a little bit different)

-a mirror of your own: especially with girls, mini mirrors are needed cause girls can hog the big ones
-a PLUG IN fan for at night- the cabins can get HOT with that many people in one room. At my camp there were outlets in the cabins so I would recommend a fan
-an extension cord: even though there are outlits, they may be far from your bed area so bringing an extension cord was a LIFESAVIOR
pics of fam/friends- this helped my campers/ when I was a campers have a happy reminder of home if they ever happen to miss it.
-TIDE PENS: Presley said something about her clothes getting stained and when I was a camper/ my campers were always the same way tide pens can REALLY help that situation if there is something that gets on your clothes.
Shower shoes- a must. no explanation needed.
A mini backpack: usually at camp you are out of the cabin for hours at a time, having a mini backpack with all the essentials you may need is largely helpful and helps you from losing things

If in your bunk you have shelves for your clothes I definitely recommend storage cubes. They are so helpful they keep you organized all the time. I would also recommend a watch, and an iPod (with headphones).
