Happy Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary! But wait... what is the Immaculate Conception? How does that even work? And why does it matter?

Fr. Mike is glad you asked.

*"Every 'Marian' doctrine is actually about Jesus."* - FR. MIKE SCHMITZ
Thank you Fr. Mike, this is a great message for all Christians everywhere at all times.

"Fall team and redeem team". This is the simplest explanation of the Immaculate Conception I have ever heard.

The last thing we hear from Mary in the Bible, regarding Jesus, is "Do whatever he tells you." She still guides us to do this today❤.

This is an example of a doctrine that uses words that are convoluted, confusing and, to put it mildly, speculative. Before her conception, Mary was 'preseved' from the 'stain' of original sin. How can we know that? Well, we can't. Even in the narrative stories of Jesus coming into the world, it doesn't make sense. We are told in so many ways that Mary's choice to be Jesus' mother was heroic. She made a choice! As an adult! Yet we are expected to believe that before she was even conceived she received a gift of 'preservation' apparently not available to any other human? Are we then expected to believe that if Mary made another choice, that the whole incarnation would not have happened?

And what of Mary's mother? Was she also given some sort of 'preservation'?

I'm a Catholic. I believe that the way we revere Mary is important not least of all for her heroic choice coming out of her strong faith. But this doctrine seeks to place her on a pedestal where that heroic, FREE, choice is made, at the very least, ambiguous. It would not be unreasonable to read this doctrine as a suggestion that Mary's fate was pre-determined.

It is not necessary, but it is fitting, that the New Eve like the first Eve was born without original sin. God always gives us what we need to accomplish our task!

I love Fr. Mike but he speaks too fast for me. I've learned that in the settings you can slow him down using the 0.75 speed setting. Now, he's speaking at a normal pace:)) LOL. It was a problem for me and many times I couldn't finish a video until my husband told me of the speed setting. This is purely constructive input; not meant negatively at all. But some of us do have a difficult time following someone who naturally speaks more quickly. Back to watching Fr. Mike!

Beautiful Fr. Mike!! I am Lutheran and have wrestled with this idea. In pursuit of better understanding, may I ask where this doctrine originated? Was there legend passed down from the apostles or was there some revelation that this was a logical assumption based on previous theology? Thanks Fr Mike!!

Wow, lots of fancy footwork and philosophies to explain this, yet you did not give provide one biblical verse as proof. The Bible states that our Lord Jesus Christ was FULLY man and fully GOD. It also states that He was tempted as we are tempted. That was the whole point of Jesus being born to a HUMAN mother instead of incarnating fully formed, like Adam. The fact is He overcame that sinful nature (we are all born with, including Mary) YET He was WITHOUT sin! If he had come to the planet as GOD only, (not also fully man) He would not have experienced temptation and human struggles. Yet, Christ overcame His humanness. That's what makes His sacrifice and what He accomplished on the cross all the more astounding and great. The way you describe it diminishes that... And since I complained that you didn't provide a Bible verse to back your philosophy up, here's one for you; Romans 3:23 "ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of GOD." - ALL. That means every HUMAN being ever born (including the 2 that were created and Mary) Jesus was the only one who NEVER sinned! So unless you have a verse that gives an exception to this for Mary, you are contradicting Romans 3:23 and therefore contradicting the Bible...

I have the utmost respect for father Mike and I wish him the best, but this view of the Immaculate Conception is sadly misguided. If you listen to this and feel in your heart that it is something wrong about it, I suggest that you check out the Orthodox Church's contrasting view.

Do we realise that no actual scripture is quoted to back or support this claim?
Think about this please;
The only person likened to Adam was Jesus, He was clearly called the second Adam, this was in context to Jesus our Lord being the source of life, because before all have sinned the bible and as death through sin came by the first Adam, like came by Jesus in righteousness.
The Lord Jesus said, except one is born again, they cannot see nor enter the kingdom of God. So except Mary was never born of flesh and blood, that is by the seed of a man, she had to be born again too.
“John 3:2-6
This man came to him at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one could perform these signs you do unless God were with him." [3] Jesus replied, "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." [4] "How can anyone be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked him. "Can he enter his mother's womb a second time and be born?" [5] Jesus answered, "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. [6] Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Salvation is by no other name, not by praying to anyone other than Jesus, if we ever needed an intercessor to the Father; God. The Holy Scriptures are full of statements that there’s only one mediator between God and man. That is Jesus Christ and He has given us direct access to the Father God.

Romans 10:13 KJV
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The Lord Jesus speaking said, God is now your Father the moment you place your trust in Him because of the finished work of salvation;

“John 20:17
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.”

Also, if you can ask God the Father anything in the name of Jesus, you don’t need another mediator:
“John 15:16
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

The Apostle Peter said here that we are kept by the power of of God, once we place our trust in God for Salvation;

“1 Peter 1:3-5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [4] To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, [5] Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

“Ephesians 1:13-14 KJV
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14] Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

Brothers and sisters, please read the Holy scriptures, the bible for yourselves, it’s all there.

There is a lot more to say on all these, however I beg you, go and read your bibles, go to a church that teaches only what the word of God says and encourages you to read like one of the churches mentioned in the book of Acts who went back to confirm that what you are told is true and consistent with the Holy Scriptures.
God bless you ❤

Okay so I have questions about this if someone could please explain:
-So if Mary was born without sin then why wasn’t she the one to die for our sins?
-Aren’t there examples in the Bible in which Jesus teaches Mary about faith? Like the time when she and Joseph were anxious about where Jesus was and they found him in the temple. If she was born without sin, wouldn’t she be free from that anxiety?
-And also doesn’t Mary refer to God as her savior? If Mary was born without sin, she wouldn’t need a savior, right?

Mary provides DNA to Jesus, makes perfect sense her body and spirit sanctified and made holy and sinless by God his own incarnation. Joseph too, sanctified, to protect Mary and Jesus. He also said yes to God and gave his life in chaste marriage in order to fulfill this.
