Maybe this is because in Swedish there isn't the distinction between "to do" and "to be doing" we have in English, so he understood "what are you doing". Anyone who speaks Swedish know if I'm right?

I used to have the phone number of a payphone located near the Eiffel tower in my cell phone. It was entertaining to dial it and tell random strangers at whatever bar I happened to be at that someone was calling for them on my phone.
I like to think that I helped to deteriorate Franco-American relations in some small way.
