Hercules MegaTape is a professional grade PTFE plumbers tape. It is chemically inert, so it can be used on the male thread of any type of pipe. Wrap clockwise 3 to 5 times. For pipe larger than 1 inch, wrap 4 to 5 times and cover with pipe thread compound.

I have that thread tape, and it works well. It's a heavier gauge, stronger than the cheaper tape. I always use Teflon paste (pipe dope) over the top of the Teflon tape, and never have any issues with leaks.

My house is older and has the old pipes in kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room. They are large compared to today plumbing will I need putty? I have to put tapping often because it is so thin!
