That lead in bass is some serious oomph. It sets the stage for the song - I used to be a 'Sandringham Boy' - the next gen from the old Westside Sharps - and I was maybe 12-13 and we used to sneak in to most of the venues in St. Kilda, we snuck in to see 'the Oils' at Kooyong, and that's where I saw Garrett take his oxygen hits from where I was standing - cos he needed them. Today's youth missed THE best decade the 80's to grow up in even if this song is a 70's era.

Thanks for this. I was 3 when this came out and my parents would listen to this on the old am radio. Havenโ€™t heard it for about 30 years

Going to 4K on this video is the first time I have noticed that Daryl Braithwaite was wearing eye shadow.

1976 Australia. What a great time to be alive. No endless leftist claptrap, no people walking in to traffic lights because they are looking at their phone and girls looked way hotter back then because they actually looked like ! Australian bands ruled in Melbourne, Sherbet, Skyhooks, AC/DC, John Paul Young, Ted Mulry Gang and none of the stadium tour bullshit, you just went to your local pub because that's where they all played. It was possible you could run in to Bon Scott at the local Milk Bar.

Howzat was Sherbet's most successful song and gave them some international exposure. Number one in Australia, one in New Zealand, and #4 in the UK, #6 in the Netherlands and #8 in Norway.
Performances on TopPop and Musikladen also helped promote them. But this was realistically the pinnacle of their success. Although they had a number 2 hit in Australia the following year with Magazine Madonna, it was sadly downhill from there and when 1980 clicked over it was like fans thought a few 70's bands were old hat and abandoned them.

Please share, comment, subscribe and like my videos. Cheers, Austech
