Will an African City ever host Olympic Games?

The 1995 Rugby World Cup announced South Africa to the globe, as a capable host. Since then the country has been able to host multiple sporting events, most notably the 2010 FIFA World Cup. These events, while costly to put together, have positive spin-offs to a country's tourism industry. And missing from South Africa's list as a host of global events, are the Olympic Games. eNCA’s Justin Ford has the story. #DStv403

South Africa, please don't do it. We can't compare the soccer world cup with the olympics. There are too many sporting events in the olympics, not just soccer. Rather, spend the money on proper housing and sanitation. Build or refurbish hospitals, train more nurses. The list is endless.

Wasteful expenditure only 20 days spinoff on tourism leaves you with huge debt for building stadium for the games, pools and everything, and after Olympics we are left with empty stadium, look at Brazil and Greece

Hosting the Olympics will cost us as citizens. There is a lot of extortion in Cape Town, rather host it in Durban or JHB.

The risk is too high, the Olympic summer games happen in a single city so Durban, PE and Cape Town are the only logical choices and it's weird cause all those areas are dealing with a lot in terms of general city cohesion. However I a greater eThekwini resident would be pissed if that level of investment was to be made to the inner city alone or worse a whole new development ballooning due to a investment of +$45 Billion which could be a insane financial injection for areas like Phoneix, Inanda, Ntuzuma, KwaMashu and uMlazi and many others but the Olympics wouldn't be here for all that cause the IOC generally demands more than we receive as the people of the city.

I'm sorry, i wouldn't want any of our Cities to be in mounting debt after that 2 week event, Barcelona and Athens are still paying a hefty price for hosting the Olympics.

NO! Simple as that! African currencies are worthless - the return would be negligible. Euros. US$. British £. Chinese Yuan.
