Nock 6 Barrel Flintlock

Henry Nock was a highly respected and very talented British gunsmith, who manufactured a wide variety of arms including military muskets for the British Army. He is probably best known on the internet for his 7-barreled volley gun (which fires all seven charges simultaneously), intended for naval ship boarding operations. This particular gun resembled that volley gun design, but is actually a self-priming flintlock pepperbox. Its cluster of 6 barrels is manually rotated, allowing the used to fire six separate shots before needing to reload. The priming mechanism and lock bear a remarkable similarity to the Collier repeating flintlocks, and it is suspected that this system was developed by Artemis Wheeler of the United States.

If I made a bad imitation of this gun, would that be considered a Nockoff?

Sorry!

This type of gun was extremely popular in my country (Romania) back in the day. Both in rifle and pistol form. The pistols, especially, remained in widespread civilian use until the late 1800's, possibly into the early 1900's as well (percussion caps would eventually replace the flintlock mechanism). There were also breech-loading models which used paper cartridges, I think, but those were expensive and quite rare and the most common ones used were muzzle-loaders. These pistols are fairly iconic, here and often associated with Romanian "haiduci" in pop culture, a kind of outlaws who are often romanticized into these Robin Hood-type scoundrels who would rob the nobles and give money to the poor. This is our own version of the Wild West, basically.

Very interesting gun. I can't believe how great the machining was back then on that little powder throw priming mechanism

That's so cool! A feat of engineering for sure. Mister Nock must have been a brilliant gun maker indeed.

I know its not the same one, but I just have memories of Sgt Harper using this thing in Sharpe, either just carrying it around while talking about whatever, or blowing his way through French soldiers with it. Good times :D

What a coincidence. I just finished watching Sharpe's Rifles, an old BBC series with Sean Bean. In the later episodes, one of the rifles, Harper, uses one of these. He's probably my favorite one of the rifles. Watch the first episode to see why. The way he does his first solo fight is amazing, and how he decides to end it

This is basically the inspiration for the Outrider's Repeating Handgun in the Warhammer Fantasy.
