Caspian Sea Monster:Not a Plane,Not a Ship
Показать описание
The Lun-class ekranoplan was a giant ground-effect vehicle (GEV) developed by the Soviet Union in the 1960s and 1970s. It was the largest GEV ever built, and the only one to ever be operationally deployed as a warship.
The Lun was powered by eight Kuznetsov NK-87 turbofans, and had a maximum cruising speed of 550 kilometers per hour (340 mph). It was equipped with the P-270 Moskit (Mosquito) guided missile, which could be fired from a bank of eight launchers.
The Lun was designed to operate in the Caspian Sea, and was used for anti-shipping operations. It was also used for reconnaissance and troop transport.
The Lun was decommissioned in the early 1990s, and is now a museum exhibit in Kaspiysk, Russia.
* The Lun was 560 feet long and 100 feet wide, and had a displacement of 5,400 tons.
* It was designed to fly just above the surface of the water, where it could travel at high speeds with minimal drag.
* The Lun was armed with eight P-270 Moskit missiles, which had a range of up to 120 kilometers.
* The Lun was also equipped with a variety of defensive weapons, including anti-aircraft guns and missiles.
* The Lun was a very capable warship, but it was also very expensive to operate. This, along with the collapse of the Soviet Union, led to its eventual decommissioning.
