Born in Surinam, living for 44 years in the Netherlands, it feels like I'm back in my childhood (at 9 years left Surinam). Thank you for displaying all these fruits. Sometimes it was mouthwatering because I still remember the taste. In October my mother is going to Surinam. I asked her if possible to bring star apple and djamoen 😋

In Jamaica, where I'm from, we have ackee as mentioned but also Cherimoya=custard apple, jackfruit, sapodilla=naseberry, soursop, starapple, ugli fruit, carambola=starfruit, Maracuya=passion fruit . Would love to try others that were presented. Nice video.

I have eaten at least 15 of the fruits you have mention in this video. As born and Lived in Ceylon which is now called state of Sri Lanka, I have been a fruit lover all my life, so are my children who have passed the fruit palate down to their children.

In the past Ceylon used to be called ‘Garden of Eden’ for its variety of fruits, flowers and the greenery. Please explore fruits of Ceylon. Many Ceylonese do not know or appreciate the taste of the local fruits. Eg. we have 29 varieties of Bananas, and 15 varieties of mangoes. They are rear and exquisite.

Local names: Divul - Wood apple (Limonia acidissima) , Nelli - Gooseberry (phyllanthus emblica), Rata Nelli-Star Gooseberry, Lavulu- Egg fruit ( Pouteria campechiana) , Veralu - Lanka Olives (Elaeocarpus serratus) different taste from Mediterranean Olives, Damson [(prunum) damascenum)], Madan – Black plum or Jamun the Indian name (Syzygium cumini), Dan – Lilly Pilly (Syzygium Caryophyllatum), Kaju – Cashew (Anacardium occidentale), Biling - (Averrhoa Bilimbi), ambarella- golden apples or jew plums (Spondias cytherea), Lovi - Batoko Plum (Flacourtia inermis), Uguressa - the Governor's Plum (Flacourtia indica)…. ect.

Many of these fruits are also used in preparing Ayurveda medicines.

I have 23 fruit trees in my garden. Today I found-out from your video that the 3 Monsterella trees/wines with lots of fruits one of the rear and exotic plant. I use the leaves to decorate church alter flower bowls.

Living in Indonesia, I'm glad that some fruits in this list aren't rare for us.
We can found Mangosteen, Dragon Fruit, Salac (Snakefruit), Durian, Rambutan, Jackfruit, Sapodilla, Soursop, Starfruit, and Passion Fruit in the market, especially when it was harvest season.

This is a wonderful, descriptive summary of these delicious fruits. I have eaten several of them, either here, in the Caribbean, or while traveling through Asia. A really, delicious culinary adventure not to be missed!😊
I saved a Mangosteen seed from Thailand and planted it in my parents garden in Saint Lucia where it grew to a sizeable tree, the sole Mangosteen in Saint Lucia. Sadly, the bats would eat the young fruit on the tree before they had a chance to fully develop and ripen. My parents grew impatient, cutting down the tree after 25 years without having seen or ever tasted a single fruit!
So very, very sad! 😢

As a student over 50 years ago in Sydney, some of my friends lived in a “student house” an old run down house scheduled for demolition, I visited and found the Southern boundary of the block was a Fejoa hedge, comprising about 20 different varieties of Fejoa, it was a bonanza, especially as no one else treasured the fruit!

My favourite fruit I grow is Feijoa, Passionfruit, Tamarillo. Other fruit i adore are lychees, sweet tamarind, dates. Many i have yet to try.

Sapodilla was called 'ciku' in Malaysia. Most of the fruits are very familiar to us especially durian, mangosteen and rambutans. Loves exotic fruits 😊

We have many feijoa in New Zealand. It doesn't really taste like pineapple and strawberries. It's got it's own unique taste and texture. It tastes different depending on ripeness, I like it as a juice mixed with grapefruit. We also love dragon fruit here - pink and white. Pink seems to be more available here. It doesn't taste like kiwi at all - it's very mild and slightly sweet tasting. Tree tomatoes/tamarillo are beautiful too, Here they are mostly deep red in colour, with dark seeds. They're my favourite - but so expensive here. We also get kiwano, ugli fruit, yuzu and passionfruit, as they grow here. When I was a kid, we had wild passionfruit growing in the bush behind our house and they were delicious.
