Where do we begin? What is biblical archaeology (if we should even call it that)? Archaeologists examine material remains using a toolkit of methods: survey, excavation, and microarchaeology. This episode also explores the Father of Biblical Archaeology himself: the explorer and minister Edward Robinson.

These episodes are a great resource. It shows just how historically strong the Bible is in my view.

Milennia pass before scholars can see evidence of the Biblical accounts but then there's a find. Feels like archaeology finds are simply catching up with what we have in scripture.

Any chance we can have this subtitled (english and other languages)? This is a great series and I would love to see more people getting into it!

The Vanillin - couldn't that have come from aging wine in wood vessels? Just like we do with wine and whiskey today? Modern artificial vanilla flavoring is made from wood pulp, vanilla bean is not the only source for vanillin.

Well, the Grail isn't _exactly_ mentioned in the Bible, but yeah, I guess it is on a stretch. If you want to count the passing reference to the cup used at the Last Supper (even though sometimes the Grail was portrayed as a plate or even a stone), then the True Cross and the Spear of Longinus should also be included. Not to mention the Holy Prepuce, lol.

Isn't vanillin found in other plants?

Can you guys do a video about the current archeological evidence, if any, for the Hebrews actually having been slaves in Egypt and for the Biblical Exodus? What does the archeological record suggest, if anything? Maybe your video could discuss pro and con evidence? Many thanks for all your great work. I did subscribe to BAR for a while.

I am not sure finding vanillin proves that those ancient people used vanilla. The sediments in those jars/urns are the decayed/decomposed residues. Vanillin could be one of those byproducts of chemical reactions/decompositions. Single malt whiskey aged in oak barrel can have vanilla flavor without having any vanilla beans in its manufacturing process.

Vanilla in the middle east ? That looks like some kind of wrong measurment. The vanilla plant is an extrem example of an endemic plant, only being able to be pollenated by a symbiotic bee species. To such an extrem that the plant has to be poll by hand imoutside of its natural range. Not even talking about that there is no historic source for the use of vanilla or similar spice and that it needs a WET climate to grow

I don't believe in god and think the bible is nothing more than a work of fiction. However, I love archeology, and am fascinated by how people lived throughout the history of man. This is going to be good!.

7:09 I wonder if Moabites had their own Torah, as they were related to Israelites. Maybe they recognized Lot as Israelites recognized Abraham? Did they see themselves as sons of an incestous relationship just as Hebrews saw them? Their language and culture seems to be close enough to that of Jews so even the moabite Ruth was able to marry a Jew.

Vanillin can come from other places than the vanilla plant
Just because vanillin was found does not mean that there was a vanilla plant in the ancient Middle East
For example, vanillin is formed naturally in wooden barrels used to make wine
If this plant existed, we would still find it today
