Da Vinci's earlier 'crayon' drawings are actually silver point drawings. You can draw with various metals. Even a spoon!

My art professor taught us to stick the tape to our jeans and t-shirts to lessen the stickiness and make it safer to use on our art projects without risk of ripping. We would stick and unstick it a few times until we go to the right stickiness.

the issue with using something like corn starch is its altering the formula in a way that could compromise the longevity of the piece of art. fine oil paintings last centuries for a reason.

In my high school painting class we would add cornstarch to our paint to make it more higher quality than the stuff we can afford

For those with an aversion to the sound of nails on a chalk board using the aluminum foil, put acrylic gesso on sketchbook paper, if it curls as it dries close the book and put some weight on it to flatten it. You can use aluminum (foil), copper, silver, brass, gold, etc to draw with. White gesso shows varying degrees of gray depending on the metal as well as temperature of the gray. Black gesso allows the natural color of the metal to show, gold is gold instead of a yellow gray you get on white paper. I personally prefer to draw with copper since with age it turns greenish like the statue of liberty. I get my copper from old wires :)

I've tried the corn starch thing, and, especially if you're making a thicker layer, then it will likely crack after a day or two

As someone who used to water down their thick body acrylic all the time, only to find out that it can cause peeling and flaking, I'd be hesitant to add anything to the paint without knowing how it will effect it in the long run, unless it's something for digital reproduction(which I know is often the case these days). Love the shelf liner one. I've been wanting one of those expensive silicone deelies that do the same thing and now I can use this instead for basically free since I already have shelf liner.

Shelf liner is so useful. I also use a strip of it on my desk to lay my art supplies on, like colored pencils and pens, so they don't roll off the desk. Because expensive colored pencils rolling onto the floor is a nightmare of broken leads. It's also under my wooden pencil boxes and so on so they don't scratch the desk surface.

There's a tool similar to that pencil tracing rig used in traditional drafting called a Pantograph. It's usually used for scaling drawings up and down.

The cabinet liner thing... So I use a round silicone scrubbie thing in the exact same way... It's awesome because it slides a little but Does not FOLD up. A great hack

OHMYDOG. As someone with auditory sensitivity, you are my HERO for editing the foil noise out. I always have to mute videos when people include noises like that. Thank you so much 💚 (So glad you're healing up well from being ill, btw!)

9:04 I have done this technique, it's gorgeous and I would suggest that you keep your paper in which you want to trace below the picture . It would definitely come out better.

I’m glad your doing better, don’t be ashamed to take breaks, and also don’t say sorry, it happens. I haven’t posted in 2 months on my twitch because of low motivation ❤️

I imagine with the boiling water one, you'd have to keep it submerged for a little bit. Using boiling water to shape synthetic fibers is something doll artists will do when making wigs out of acrylic yarn and synthetic hair. You'd probably need to make sure to give it time to soften the material so it's malleable to the shape you're looking for. I also imagine, it would help to shape it using water, then using a soluble glue to hold it in place for a few hours while the temp comes down and it dries (similar to how you may buy brushes with glue on them for the reason of keeping the shape).

for the shelf liner hack. I have something similar. If you've ever bought a baked potato from wendy's the bottom of the container it comes in has a really good texture for painting.

That hack that fixes the bristle of the brushes, the correct way to do it is take boiling water and soak the bristle for 1-2 minutes(Don't have the boiling water touch the metal part or the glue will come off!)Then take it out of the boiling water and cover the bristle of the brush in soap or dish soap for 2-3 minutes. Let it dry and then wash it off and your brush should be good as new!
