In this episode of Ask Doug, Pastor Doug Wilson answers the question, "In your book 'Future Men,' you say that an optimistic eschatology (being postmil) is crucial to raising boys. I like that, but I sometimes wonder if an eschatology can be THAT practical. Can you help me out?"

Ask Doug is presented by Canon Press.

Pastor Doug, Postmil is especially important for women!! I felt like my role as a homemaker was no real kingdom work because running a home is so “earthly”, until I heard you explain the postmil theology. Now I LOVE being a homemaker because I can truly see how my work is significant! It’s all I want to do besides eat, pray and read my Bible.

Thank you Doug!!

Post-mil 'men' must be men 'in understanding', 'spiritual understanding', to rise to the 'occasion'. If we are sure Christ is the Victor, and we are 'in His faith', an overcoming faith, we 'cannot but speak' (Acts 4:20) if we realize the truth of the gospel and are 'having the same Spirit of faith' as Paul, nay, as Christ, Who shall raise us up! I know and am sure that the Gospel will permeate the whole world, for there is no other Hope, and also 'account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation'! (2Pet.3:13-15)

Can confirm; life without mission is miserable.

If you believe Christ’s Kingdom is of this earth, then Doug’s explanation MIGHT make some sense. For most who have seen down through the centuries the Church make earthly progress and fall back, Postmillennialism is nothing but a discouraging pipe dream (oh, I know, I lack faith, I’d that it?). But that is NOT our mission! Our mission is to faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, “even to the point of death.” When we stand before the Lord with those we have led to Christ, “our joy and crown, ” it will be evident to all that “our labor in the Lord is not in vain.” Keep sowing for God’s Kingdom and let the hedge care for itself.

I think y’all would not appreciate the ad that showed before this video.

Encouraging stuff here! BTW, I need to #AskDoug a question regarding the 3rd commandment, snappy comebacks, and Southern Baptist culture. How might I do that?

I’m a cautious premillennialist, but really struggling with the subject. The only interpretation of Revelation 20 that makes sense to me is Premillennialism. Watching in March of 2020 as the world is grinding to a halt. Sorry just rambling here.

Why couldn't an imminent return of Christ for His bride be an optimistic eschatology? in fact would that be an hindrance to proper raising of boys?

I think my reformed Pastor would roll his eyes at the title of this video and caution me both personally and publicly about viewing or sharing such controversial subjects.

Please don't tell me you're equating my grand-pappy's much-adored Louis L'amour with Safeway bodice-busters! Surely his legacy deserves better than that!

What is important is whether or not post-millennialism is true. If it's true it's important because it's true. Once we start appeal to benefit or pragmatics then we are appealing to a spirit other than the Spirit Of Truth; even if it is true we do not want to be motivating people in the wrong way. This video is very dangerous.

imagine holding a particular theological view because it's subjectively optimistic
