Dr. Sugai Compares: Tinted vs Non-Tinted La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Sunscreen

This is the second video in the Dr. Sugai Compares...Series and it’s discussing one of my favorite sunscreens of 2020.

They are mineral based but the ingredients are understandably different as one is tinted and the other is not. What is the key difference besides the appearance of your skin once the sunscreen is rubbed in? Does one of them protect you from the Blue light emitted from your electronic devices (iPads, phones, computers)?? Watch the video to see which one has the ingredient that will protect you from aging/worsening dark spots on the face from our devices.

Also please remember: do not forget to apply sunscreen on your neck, ears and eyelids. These are commonly missed areas and I am finding skin cancers in these areas quite a bit.
Wear your spf 30 and above all year round!

In general, tinted sunscreens are great for those with darker skin types (I am skin type III and it blends in well) and so the goal of the video is to not tell you which one to buy but to show how it blends into my skin type and to discuss how ingredients can differ between tinted and non-tinted sunscreens!

Thank you so much for discussing the potential piling and staining masks, clothes, etc! Those are important points most sunscreen reviews don’t talk about. Keep up the amazing content, doc!

Thank you for this video. I started using the tinted sunscreen just over a month ago and my forehead has almost no dark spots left. I love love love this sunscreen that’s why I wanted to learn more about it. I’m grateful I can learn from your work. Thank you again!!

I'm pale AF so the nontinted white cast is the perfect tint for me 😃 I've literally used cornstarch as a setting powder before and it worked 😩😩

Since the tinted one only has titanium dioxide, should we be concerned about broad spectrum coverage?

OMG that blue screen!! I think I'll get tinted sunscreen when I'm done with my current one. Thanks for the tips, Dr. Dan!

The only thing is that the white cast with mineral sunscreens is more noticeable when exposed to sunlight, it gives me a ghost face look. So maybe show what they look like out in the sun too.

I purchased the La Roche-Posay 50 SPF Tinted Mineral at Target (San Antonio, TX) because of a prior video in which you discussed several sunscreens. I have been getting tons of age spots and the sun is intense in the Southwest. I do like the tinted on you more than the other.

My dermatologist recommended the tinted sunscreen. I take medications and one of them gave me a side effect of light sensitivity which later, it causes my skin to turn red because of sun explosion and blue light from TV, phones, and lights which now it lead to pigmentation. Now I will be on tinted sunscreen for more protection. Thank you for the video. GREAT information to find out!

Do you think titanium only is enough to protect us from UVA and UVB? What about zinc? thank you dr.

Did you find the tinted to be any “heavier “ than the non tinted? This non tinted is the ONLY sunscreen I have found that my sensitive, oily skin tolerates and has a cast that I can deal with. I tried another tinted brand but hated how you could see the tint on my mask, so I am glad you mentioned that happened with this one as well.

Both look O.K. Tinted ones are great for making the skin look more uniform and flawless👍. My favorite sunscreen is EltaMD Physical tinted=looks great and gives me UV protection in one product😁

I mix them. And the skin looks much more natural than with just using the tinted one

I got the tinted version yesterday here in England. Price is £19, 90. It is great. And it has both titanium dioxide and Iron oxide. Love it

My experience with tinted sunscreens is that they stain washcloths, towels, white shirts, etc.

Dr Sugai you should make a skin type video, I don't know my exact tone and undertone and I think that I'm not the only one.

I am from Mumbai, where the climate is hot and humid, and I also have oily skin. However, after watching your videos, I began using littllextra riceberry sunscreen and it has been amazing on my skin. I have recently joined swimming and my skin tends to tan quickly (I am a dark-skinned person). I apply this sunscreen before swimming and my skin hasn't tanned at all. It protects my skin from the chlorine water so well, and I am surprised by the results. I have been using this daily for a month now and I really like it. Thank you so much for these wonderful videos and your thorough research.
