I've been in construction for 20 years and have also placed a lot of concrete. I thought your video was great, concise and easy to understand as it is probably geared for people who are not professional builders. Daniel Lundeen is correct that adobies are a more secure way to insure proper remesh spacing, but the "common" practice of pulling the remesh with a rake, as you suggest, works well for smaller structures that don't have a significant load impact. Thanks again for taking the time to do the video.

@dantankun Wrong. Mesh must be lifted up unless it's somehow suspended so that the concrete flows under, around and over it.

I was observing some guys pouring a driveway last week. They installed the wwf but it wasn't sitting on chairs and I didn't see them pulled it up. It looked like they simply poured the concrete over it. Defeats the purpose if you ask me.

I love how all videos about wire mesh talk about how important it is to lift it, and yet don't show how it's done.

Australia
1. Should be rust free mesh/bar
2. 300mm tied lap for joins
3. Bar /mesh chaired UNDER and tied to mesh NOT hooked up during pour.
4. Expansion Abiflex rolled foam or Bitumen expansion joint around edges.
5. Mesh /steel min of 50mm in from all edging

nice job. i could not imagine pouring a new driveway without using steel mesh. especially in Iowa where it freezes us and thaws expanding and contracting our cement. Ive seen huge blow outs where the road exploded, they should have maybe used some steel mesh on that spot in the road. some roads have it some don't here. thanks for sharing.

I've seen guys lay the mesh on top of scattered 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 inch blocks so they don't have to pull the wiring up. Its already at the height needed. It also varies on the slab thickness too, obviously. 😁

It was just a residential garage floor. That 21# mesh is plenty sufficient.

Now, a driveway that might have 15 or 20-ton delivery trucks on it, you bet I'm putting in #4 bars 2-feet on center both ways.

As a specialist in advanced methods of reinforcing w/ welded wire, this video does my profession no justice.  One should always chair the welded wire just as you would rebar.  Pulling up the mesh w/ a rake does not work, as the welded mats generally settle back down to the bottom.  5" slab us 2.5" adobies, 4" slab 2" adobies.

seems like a big project.. why not use rebar? Will the mesh be sufficient???

Encountered some of this wire mesh when I was moving the drain in my bathroom. We had to bust up about a foot of concrete slab in we decided to cut straight through this.

good luck, never seen the wire mesh pulled inside the concrete, always ends up at the bottom from all the walking on it

I wanted to see how they pull it up. Thanks for the information, though.

according to the structural professor and architect at lsu your supposed to put the mesh 1/2" clear from top. the middle doesn't do much for bending forces. and when put near top it stops cracks from forming because thats were the bending forces are.

Do you have any videos where you pull the mesh up? I keep watching videos but don't see anyone pulling it up. Doing a 30x56 barn and wondering how that works when using the level set. Thanks!

@PutSome5tankOnIt This is true and I believe that is why they add stress joints to prevent unwanted cracking later. Not sure if that is the correct term for it.

From india... What is the main use of wire mesh in 2 way slab..
To prevent corners from lifting or to control cracking of corners??

Good evening Mr. Carter. Hoping to pick your brain here for a second. I'm want to build a concrete base/slab for my washer and dryer which sit outside. What do you suggest?

hello..
Im doing my mtech thesis on wall panel using wiremesh and steel bars. Please tell me whether there is any specification for using them in wall panel.
