An atheist most often does not take any position apart from not accepting god as an answer.

Wmeester

Pointing out bad arguments doesn't burden you to make a better argument.

somerandom
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

The burden of proof lies on the person making the claim. Even if science hadnโ€™t explained almost all of the practical realities of the natural world (which it has) you donโ€™t need to have a fully fleshed out counter example in order to prove someone wrong. All you have to do is prove someone wrong.

As an atheist all l'm saying is l don't believe in a God or gods, l'm not saying God or gods do or don't exist, two entirely different things.

I could explain flaws in your argument without presenting a different one.

julianrosati

If an idea can be shown to be wrong why would an alternative be needed to replace it? Sometimes ideas are wrong and questions need to remain open.

The only sense that an atheist might have the burden of proof here is to explain why you are wrong, not necessarily to provide an immediate alternative.

JLBorges
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

Only if they are making a positive claim. A statement about what they believe is not a positive claim.

Spectre
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

Myself, an Atheist, don't make positive statements about god/gods only that I don't believe in any god/gods because there is no evidence for their existence so the one making a positive statement is required to show proof/evidence

Quirll
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

That's not how the burden of proof works. You say even, they say odd, I say not enough information to believe either. And my JUSTIFICATION for that is the lack of information (proof). A null position does not need defending.

samielhellhound
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

We don't have the burden of proof with regards to God, the Bible or Christianity.

schnapsidee
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

No no no no no. You don't get away with that one, Frank. I can point out that a case you put forward is flawed as a standalone subject. Me not offering an alternative does not make your argument any better. A flawed argument is flawed whether there is an alternative or not.

Whoever makes a claim has the burden of proof,

What claim does an atheist make that require proof?

mickqQ
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

Atheists are not the ones making the god claim Frank.

GR-winh
ะะฒั‚ะพั€

I think what Frank is referring to is the fact that the universe looks as if a designer is responsible And the fact that anything exists points to a creator, a designer, In which case the atheist has no solution for this.

The burden of proof falls in those making extraordinary claims. If you claim: โ€œmy invisible friend is the only real invisible friendโ€ that needs to be supported in some way. If my rebuttal is โ€œnahโ€. That requires no proof. I am simply disregarding an unsubstantiated claim.

davidvernon

This fallacious logic must apply both ways. So when theists criticize science, where is their better argument? Love to actually hear one.

When the Civil War starts between those fighting to perserve American Democracy and those who want to turn America into theocracy which side are you willing to die for?

โ€œWe need to be the party of nationalism and Iโ€™m a Christian, and I say it proudly, we should be Christian nationalists.โ€ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) โ€œIโ€™m tired of this separation of church and state junk โ€“ thatโ€™s not in the Constitution.โ€ Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) Lauren Boebert calls for laws to enforce "biblical citizenship training" in our schools.

โ€œWeโ€™re not bending the knee to the two percent anymore, โ€ said Andrew
Torba, founder of the right-wing-friendly social platform Gab, referring
to Jewish people in the United States. Retired Lt. Gen. Michael
Flynn, the former national security adviser, told a Christian gathering
last November, โ€œIf we are going to have one nation under God, which we
must, we have to have one religion. One nation under God and one
religion under God.โ€ The 10-year-old Ohio girl who crossed state lines
to receive an abortion in Indiana should have carried her pregnancy to
term and would be required to do so under a model law written for state
legislatures considering more restrictive abortion measures, according
to the general counsel for the National Right to Life. Former President
Donald Trump said during a speech on Saturday that "Americans kneel to
God" alone, as the concept of Christian nationalism continues to gain
traction among conservatives. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is attended a
rally in Pennsylvania with state Sen. Doug Mastriano. Mastriano has
praised Andrew Torba, the founder of Gab and a self-described Christian
nationalist. Desantis is the most insidious of them all because he
knows better.

Jesus is the mascot of the Trump-Republican Taliban! When the Civil War
starts will you choose America or Theocracy?

Do you mean besides how Science explains pretty much everything we know about the known universe using math and observations?

Or do you mean how we should just take the word of a book that doesn't explain why or how?
