“I knew I didn’t want to make a documentary. Documentaries are what I use to convey information. I wanted people to be able to feel emotion and empathy,” says writer, producer and director Ava DuVernay on adapting her new film, “Origin,” which is in theaters Jan. 19.

So happy that Ava made this film. When I chose this book for my book club hosting month, when it was first published, I felt everyone should read it. The book was so incredible, that I still quote from it. I can't wait to see the film

Thank you, Chris Hayes, for interviewing Ava and promoting her new film that I can't wait to see. I loved the book and now I want to see how Isabel and Ava handled the subject in her film.

I'm getting a feeling that 2024 word of the year could well be
ACCOUNTABILITY. People are questioning why a lot of injustices aren't being addressed.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE!!! I remember living in China in 2018 as an FBA and making so many connections between research I'd done since the 90's and the experiences I was having as an "other" on my own in Asia. And I had an epiphany...that America has a very disinct and working caste system. I had mentioned this realization to an Anglo American friend of mine who was with me in Asia...and though she'd been married to an African man and had African children, my words sounded like gibberish to her. She didn't get it. I kept my thoughts to myself... Then a couple years later Isabel Wikerson released the book CASTE and I felt seen and understood. Here was a kindred spirit. I bought it immediately... And now there's a MOVIE!!!!

One of the things I have learned this past year is that my daughter did the ancestry test and I found out that we as a family have traces of every continent including Africa of which we have a two percent, in fact we have Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, indigenous people and so I have come to the conclusion that we are all connected and no one is completely pure. We have to start thinking that we are all just people living in this one planet and start thinking that we all have feelings and we have been hurting each other and for what? Stupid pride that in the scheme of things it is meaningless and start thinking that we are all created by one source and it’s for a reason: to learn a very difficult subject: to learn to love each other and remembering His words: to love each other as He loves us. I will surely go and watch the film.

I had the honor of meeting Ms Isabel Wilkerson in Portland Oregon before the covid debacle. Not only is she a gifted and intelligent writer, she is a very humble, patient, and pleasant human being. I enjoyed our brief conversation and her very informative presentation. I highly recommend her books. If I had a daughter she would be someone like Isabel Wilkerson❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I have to admit that I'd be running to see this movie if all I'd heard was that Ava Duvernay received a 9-minute standing ovation -- yes, NINE minutes! -- at its showing in Cannes.

I LOVE THIS!!
As a man of color CAST was hard to read only because I felt that specific pain of historical trauma while it was such a helpful read because of the universal human dilemma of hierarchy. I know this movie will do so much good!
