Something to consider would be installing holding valves on the hydraulic cylinders. If a hose blows out then you don' t fall straight to the ground.

I made one of these too. I recommend everyone who uses this type of security cage to cut an acces at one of the sides with a chain locking it if you want, it's more comfortable at least for me. In addition, you can do a toolbox at the front or at the other side. Good video!

Way cool!! 20 years ago we used to have and use a steel wire "scrap metal box" with a steel pallet bottom until it was stolen from the warehouse. Then, one of our suppliers started shipping their goods to in a plastic box containers. Great replacement, but no drop side. Unload from the top and they were almost as tall as the tank cage! ??? ( And they were One Way boxes, but they were recyclable!) Then out of nowhere, the boxes had one drop side. Well, maintenance grabbed two and modified them to work: one lights and electrical, and general maintenance for the other.
They had tool boxes, two fold up jump seats, the drop side was chained solid, ECT ECT.
Nice thing was the old small Yale electric forklift had a 48' vertical reach!
OSHA never said a word.

thanks for the heads up brother.. saw you vid and did one better :) i had a tote that leaked right above the 75 gallon mark, so thanks to you, i repurposed it :) i cut the tote to about 2" from the bottom and created a dish sorta speak, screwed it to the pallet, then cut the bottom section of the cage out and left the 2 top rungs for strength when hanging off the side.. this thing is awesome.. next up, add a chainsaw scabbard and tool holders!! lol.. be safe brother

Cool! We got the same idea, but a basket made out of welding scaffolding together. 2 guys can go in it with a few sheets of plywood.

I saw some guys, must have had a contract with TxDOT using just a pallet on a tractor to get up high and trim the low hanging branches with their chainsaw along a State highway. Apparently, no OSHA people ever travel that road.

Not sure that is to OSHA standards, but it looks really hard to fall out of. As long as it is properly strapped the the tractor, looks very safe.

I fully agree about the basket. It is plenty safe, however, the weakness in your plan is the hydraulics on the tractor. They can fail at any time and do. Commercial lifts use safety valves in the hydraulic system that do not allow the rig to come down should a hose burst or some other failures occur. Just sayin!
