Pushed to the Boundaries: The Brus of Mizoram

The tribal community of Brus has been in conflict with the Mizoram majority for the past 17 years. Many have lost their homes, lands, and even the hope of a brighter future for their young.

The latest episode in the ongoing conflict came last November, two days before the Mizoram assembly elections, when Bru militants allegedly belonging to the Bru Democratic Front of Mizoram (BDFM) and helped by members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) abducted three young men.

After Brus were back to their ancestral land Tripura, Mizoram remained the most peaceful and the only State with no militant group

Thats the Brus. No cqndy coating can ever make them sweet.

They are LAZY and didn’t want to come back. In a relief camp they get a special gift from central. That is what they want instead of labour farming and hard working. So, for that reason they made and excuses about claimant of an Autonomous District council. You know we, Mizo people, are only 1million and our land is no so big. We are not sufficient for splitting in different types of ethnic and their own localities. Central people must be understand.
