Amazon Vs Alibaba

While Alibaba may boast higher net profits, it’s crucial to recognize that investing decisions extend beyond current financials. Alibaba is a dominant force in the Chinese market and has a significant global presence, particularly in e-commerce and cloud computing. However, differences in business models, corporate philosophies, and market dynamics mean that investors might see Amazon as a more attractive option for long-term growth and sustainability.

Investors often weigh factors such as leadership vision, adaptability to evolving markets, and the ability to innovate when making investment decisions. Amazon’s track record in these areas, along with its global market presence and diversified business portfolio, contributes to its appeal as a long-term investment choice, even when immediate financial metrics might favor other companies like Alibaba.

If you’re confused, it’s not because you can’t understand. What he was stating was edited down to nothing but gibberish.

The end of his message completely went over my head. Especially the part about time horizons and why Elon couldnt grow his business in Africa

For many, many years, Amazon made little to no profit (losing money some years). Why was this? Not because Bezos wanted to keep profits down, but rather because he wanted to sell things for cheap, driving other sellers out of business. The original intent was to drive other sellers out of the market so that at some point, Amazon would then be able to raise prices when there was little competition. However, things did not work out that way...they still have plenty of competition, so they have not been able to raise prices much at all. Amazon always had little to no profit until Amazon Web Services (AWS) came online...that is the true cash cow for Amazon and is the profitable part of the business. However, Amazon's silly mentality of selling things for little to no profit has permeated their culture to the point that when they bought Whole Foods, the first thing they did was lower prices on chicken. This move was amazingly stupid and completely unnecessary, but they did it anyway. They did not need to do it because Whole Foods has a loyal (but moronic) customer base that thinks they are getting better products because they cost 2-3x what they pay in normal grocery stores. Lowering the cost of chicken would only affect their profits but would not attract new customers. Completely idiotic, but that's how Amazon does things.

I always thought I'm hallucinating with the idea that Equity investment is like starting a whole tribe or specie that should not only dominate its space but also evolve with time to confront frontiers that shape life as we imagine it. So my personal most important indicator is "capital utilisation ratio" than net profit....

Explanation
Amazon might seem to have same net profit with alibaba but thats because Amazon reinvest everything back into the business. So in the outside yiu feel like same net profit almost rwual level business but thats bot the case since internally amazon gets scaled each time. See companiers like the camera doorbell. Amazon bought that for 1billion but that year all an outsider knows is their net income was just *** but thats because they reinvest everything

You need a large country derived from a 1000+ year tradition of education and improvement and law and classic liberalism. Then you create so much wealth and opportunity that people can and will risk things and produce incredible results.

Why would you invest based only on profit as an output rather than considering the net worth of the company?

Did he actually say anything? I don’t know what point he was trying to make. Why is Amazon having flat profit? Wh….why? What?
Ali Baba makes money, Amazon doesn’t and that’s why you can’t invest if you’re in Africa. What?!?!

i think what he didn't say is Amazon is investing most of the money in newer businesses and expanding in all kinds of things. Setting up new businesses costs money and so profits go down. But long term, when all these new businesses start bearing fruit, it will be a huge harvest.
