I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling Greg.

A graphics card will look like it's been burnt, scuffed, and never cleaned, and the seller will describe it as *"lightly used"*

If there was ever a word that gets over used in tech, it's "Gaming".

Deleting something on a hard drive is like breaking up with someone, not telling them, and assuming they'll figure it out eventually.

I hate it when people price their items at 1$ just to get them clicks and I’m sitting here not wanting to ask them for the price

There will always be people that exploit the system. Personally, everything I sell I label as "used", even if it's just an opened box and all I did was test it. That is what the description is for, be honest and your buyers will be more inclined to buy from you again. "Used" "In as new condition, only installed briefly to validate that it works" or "used for several months, cleaned and new thermal compound applied to return to as close to functionally new as possible" etc. Its all in the details. Its up to the purchaser to filter dubious or false labeling but being honest will always pay out better in the long term, just don't try to sell garbage as gold. I find this has always worked best for me, a bit of extra effort in the pictures and description go a long way to getting your asking price, provided what you are asking is fair.

The most misused word on eBay.

Rare.

All so confusing. So much easier browsing cars on Craigslist. Any time you see "No lowballs, I know what I've got" or "Runs great! Needs engine" you know exactly what you're in for.

I’ve always seen open box as including minimal amounts of use like someone using a device or component for a few hours or days and then deciding that they either don’t want it or don’t need it.

"Always ask the seller to send pics" but Greg... what if they ask for pics back? 😉

Selling an ancient GPU - "Can run most modern titles at high settings 60fps *coughat640x480cough*. NEVER MINED ON!"

The most misused words I've seen is when they add up all the cores speed into one figure. "Really fast 10ghz processor!"

If I sold a half eaten sandwich on eBay, does this mean I can’t list it as like new???

I trust "used" listings more. Often times I've gotten "open box" or "refurbished" items that have issues either immediately or after a couple of use hours.

Another thing is that if it's not fully functional, it should be listed under "For Parts or not working". For example, if it's missing a battery or HDD, it's not fully functional and shouldn't be cluttering up the used listings.

7:25 note. While I personally would never get a drive used, plugging it into a system that does not get used often and running DBAN or something like that to destroy all the data on the drive would be a really good idea before putting it into a system to use.

Reminds me of my high school days when I'd search ebay for PS2 games to buy sometimes and I don't think I'll ever forget the one listing I saw which simply stated the item was, and I quote:
used, kind of
It was so bizarre, but I've never laughed so hard at a listing before because I kept trying to wrap my head around how could be "kind of" used, lol. It's either used or it isn't! Which is it?!
This isn't subjective or up to interpretation here. It's objectively black and white. The product has either been used or it hasn't been. Like, come on, man.
